    Black Canyon 500 - 8/6/11

    Route: http://mapq.st/n8zjZK

    Hey CSC,

I'm looking for a few fellow CSCers to come along with me. If you haven't had a chance to do one of the Firecracker 500s then here is your opportunity (same route).

500 miles over 12-13 hours. Make sure you and your bike are up for it.

Meet early in the Springs and leave Acorn at 6:30am - Head to Buena Vista for breakfast at Jan's. If someone from the north wants to join us we can all meet here.

This is an intermediate rider level run. No one wants to crash a few hundred miles from home. Keep that in mind when you're riding.

You should have full leathers if possible, otherwise the basics of gloves, jacket, boots, pants and helmet. I'll post more details tomorrow.

Please reply here if you're interested in going.

    Meet location

    Colorado Springs meeting spot:

Acorn gas station at 8th and 24

    305 South 8th Street
    Colorado Springs, CO 80905-1803
    (719) 633-8423

    Time

0540 AM - Introductions, gas, map hand out, pep talk.

6:00 AM -- KSU (Kick stands up) and heading West on Hwy 24 towards Buena Vista

If we want to stop for breakfast or we're meeting some Northies then Jan's in Buena Vista is a good link up spot and hard to miss. We should get there around 0800 AM

    Jan's Resturant
    304 US Highway 24 South
    Buena Vista, CO 81211
    (719) 395-6940

I'd love to do this route! Unfortunately, my long-distance bike is currently sick from the heat and I don't want to take the sportbike on this long of a ride... again! Hope you get some takers, been wanting to see Black Canyon myself.

Yep , you don't want to take a sportbike on the twistyest roads Colorasdo has to offer, that just wouldn't be right.

Hey Clovis, couldn't come up with original name for you ride???

Any attempt to coerce, blame, question, or pin your loser-riffic behavior on any of us, or those who are considered us for the night, as well as people we like, to include Salma Hayek and Nicky Hayden, among others, will result in a profanity stricken series of post that mock and taunt you incessantly, as well as many of us adding such insults to our signature lines. Avoid taking SoCo before bedtime. Do not use if you experience faintness, dizziness, inverness, difficulty urinating or blotchy skin. Yeeeeeeah, I hear you. Thing is, I did a 400 mile sport-bike ride this past Sunday (by accident, should have been 300 miles), and I'm still recovering today. Couple more months and I'll be joining the FOG forum, its true.

If you can do 500 miles on *your* sport bike, sounds like a blast

We have done over 700 miles on "our" sport bikes with no problem (yes all in the same day) and still home before dark. lol Three day tours pushing 2000 miles, great fun when you have a guide that keeps you in the twisties and off the seat!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Black Canyon 500 - 8/6/11

Its looking good for this weekend. I'm expecting to have 3-4 people total on this one.

Bash: Black Canyon 500 sounded better then "Canon City, Salida, Gunnison, Black Canyon, Carbondale, Aspen, Independence Pass and Colorado Springs 500 in a day".

Although "Black Canyon 500" doesn't quite roll off your tongue like the other but we all have to make sacrifices to save subject line space.

Hmm, I'm tempted as I miss my old group and our day-long rides, but that meetup is both early and far for me...laziness might win this one...

    Just messin wid you.
I am acually honored, imatation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Livingpools, I am on the home leg right now of a 3000+ ride thru Mexico.
These last 2500 miles I have not had the luxery-sp- of a clutch. Should make it home tomorrow, 12 days on the road. Well not quite. I spent 4 days in Mazatlan working my tan on the beach, waiting for parts that never came. Hence the ride home, sans clutch.
GSXRScott is correct, we like to do multi-hundred rides.

Thanks Jeff. I haven't ridden with you in FOREVER. I think the NM, AZ, CO trip we did was the last one. I still remember that embarrassing picture you took of me sleeping in the morning and POSTED IT. You bastard!

ALSO: Updated. It's 3 of us so far and we're aiming to be home before Dark.

Meet time is 0545 and KSU at 0600.
