Be safe NoCO! We'll see each other at some point. I'm hoping that we can maybe pull over and do some singing.
SHOW TUNES!!
Bike's finally ready to go, see you all in the AM bright and early.
9:15 and we're 185 miles in (Gunnison). Perfect weather and perfect road conditions.
Hey, how in the f do u do that with the map on ur opening post? U just uploading a saved google map? Seriously, how do u do that?
Oh ya, and have a good ride.
Its not how fast you go, its how little you slow down.
I'll tell when we get back. We're at the scenic overlook right now. T plus 5 hours 15 minutes 230 miles in. Gravel for 13 miles up to the rim kind of a damper. Of all the time to do crack sealing!
Onward to Hotchkiss!
Awesome ride!!! One of the best I've ever been on. The whole day was like being in a wheel chair at Disneyland when you're not really handicapped.
Ride after ride after ride with no waiting!
We had 4 people total and I couldn't have asked for better mates. From KSU at 0600 to getting back home at 2000 (8pm) to having zero accidents, zero tickets, gobs and gobs of pictures (which I love, thank you Rabea!!), even more comments for the out of context thread!
Only issue was a coolant level problem that we were able to quickly fix and get on our way.
John, Rabea and Christi -- I'll ride with you guys to HELL!
-Clovis
WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN BABY!!
Pictures to follow shortly.
Yes, Lets mount up and ride. Great day!!!
John
how were the roads in gunnison?
Pristine!! Every road was perfect except a some chip/seal repair up to the North Rim (Black Canyon). It wasn't too bad.
I don't think you'll be hitting that anyways on your Cortez trip. If you do, it was 7 miles of gravel and another 7 of rough road.
Everything else was perfect.
I use MapQuest -- go to the website, click on get directions.
Enter the starting point and then the next point.
Then click add destination for where you want to go next. So the one above was
Colorado Springs to Canyon City
Canyon City to Gunnison
Gunnison to Hotchkiss, ect ect.
This gives you a map with the route highlighted. You may have to add in smaller towns in between the big ones because MapQuest will route you to avoid "seasonal" roads like Indie pass. If that fails you can also manually drag the route to a new road and it will re-route that way.
So now you have your map. I then hit print screen on my keyboard and open MS Paint. Paste and there's a screen shot.
I use the cropping (?) tool? Its the one that lets you take boxes out of the photo and crop it to what I want to show.
Copy that and create a new image and past. Now its cropped.
For the extra stuff like WayPoints, route direction ect. I add all of that in. I use circles to (well circle) the stops. I draw lines and make crappy arrows in different colors to show the direct we're going.
I use the ABC tool to right in parts like the names of towns, WP #1, mark highways, ect and then circle and draw an arrow pointing.
Without MS Paint just use mapquest to get the route and map itself. When choosing a route if you're not familar with the roads - look for roads that are twisty (squigely lines) and avoid long straight ones).
I hope that helps.

Clovis, thank you for organizing the ride. Thanks to John and you also for taking care of my water level.
Great group. Great fun. No tickets!
I need to go through the pics in more detail. Meanwhile, two of my favorite ones below.

Christi is looking at me creepy....
And those Pugs were a pain to transport on the ride. Props to all that helped with that.....
Once again, great time.

Glad you guys had a good ride. That chip n seal crap sucked around the north rim. I was doing like half speed, and my bike felt pretty squirmy. Never a good feeling. Other than that section, the day was perfect.

Ninja2 (Rabea) -- Dress for success!
KSU'd at 6:05. By 9:15 we were making great time and already in Gunnison and 170 miles in for the next fuel stop.
After a quick stop it was on to the Canyon -- with a quick photo op
Anyhow, back on track!
The overlook of the Canyon:
Oddly enough I guess I only took 1 picture. I know Rabea took more.
After Hotchkiss and maybe 30 miles before Carbondale Hwy 132 (my favorite by far) presented a few more photo ops
A few more:
And a few miles from home - the perfect end to the perfect day:
OK. Pics are posted to: https://picasaweb.google.com/ninjapi...yon5006Aug2011
I thought about you guys yesterday- and then I saw you!
We just crested Wilkerson Pass on our way west to go camping yesterday evening, and I see the three of you heading back and immediately recognized Rabea and John. Glad you all had fun times.
