    turbo charging my bike

Hey guys I have a 98 zx6r and I am looking for cool things to do to it. Anyone out there know much about turboing a carburated bike? I think it would be cool if its possible. It would be a pretty cool project this winter while I have the bike tore down. anyone have tips?

While it is possible, and it would be unique/cool, you'd spend enough on the project to have purchased a brand new bike I'd bet.

Track/race, ride the way it was intended. With both wheels on the ground and away from public.

Maybe one of these days I will be able to get on the track. I have alot of practice to do. However I dont think I can only ride on track. It is not in my nature. I enjoy riding on the street too. I know its dangerous but in my opinion living life without danger is not living life. Thats just me.

And the new bike would blow it away.

Do it. All the "racers" here may not be into it, but if you think it's cool go for it. It would definitely be unique.

It's your bike do as you want to do. You can have the frame Polished or Chromed. Get a custom paint job. Buy a new set of aftermarket wheels, etc..... there's plenty of ways to customize your bike nowadays.

    Re: turbo charging my bike

you would probabaly want to convert it to FI as well, as boost and carbs do not mix well. and finding the right turbo for the small displacement and to not have uber lag would be a challenge, not to mention the intense fab work to put it all together, but its totally do-able.

personally I try to spend my time and money on useful upgrades, but to each their own man.

    good luck with it

    Re: turbo charging my bike

Save the money from mods and take a few courses; like advanced riders motorcycle class or even some track time (you don't need a dedicated track bike; alot of of take out daily riding sportbikes).

Best mod ever to a bike is being good at riding it!!

If you insist on mods I would consider changing your sprockets (down a tooth in the front, and as much as 3 up in the rear) and get 520 conversion kit. I do this to all my 600cc and feel it really makes a nice difference on lower end power. You will lose some top speed, but it will be from like 160 tops to 140 and nobody needs to be going above 140. You may need to also get a speed healer because on some bikes the speedometer will get affected and not show the correct speed, but that will correct it.

your bike is of the vintage that the speed sensor may be on the front wheel, if you can verify this, no need for a speedo healer, if your speed sensor works off the gearbox or countershaft sprocket however, you'll need the speedo healer to correct the speedo/odo.

the speedo healer would be installed inline to scale the speedometer signal to the gearing change, normally just power, ground and signal wires.

I think it'll look great with a 4ft extended swingarm, neon, lowering, turbo with NOS, a 300mm rear tire and wrapped in tiger striped fur.
