    04 CBR 600rr - Problem with Speedometer/Tach/Fuel display

    Ok,

I rode to lunch the other day and everything was fine. Come back out, throw a leg over...and I ended up realizing that my speedo/tach/fuel display, etc...would not engage when I turned the key to the start position. The weird part is that when i engage my turn signals or high beam those indicator lights will turn on but not my neutral light. The clock is still working too.

After a little browsing all i could find is that its a fuse problem. I checked my fuses and they all appear to have been in good working order. I am going to check again today to double check to make sure that i didnt miss anything as I only checked the fuse box on my left side.

    Anyone have any ideas...

    Please help, rookie electrician

Sounds like corrosion/relay issues, corroded and/or sticking. Located under left mid fairing. Also check the headlight/gauge harness connectors that connect to the main harness. We have had corrosion issues on these bikes a lot more than otherS. Can also be a ground issue. there is a main ground that connects to that relay bracket.

    Re: 04 CBR 600rr - Problem with Speedometer/Tach/Fuel display

I had an 05 600 rr and had problems with my gauge cluster. For a long time my fuel gauge, and right turn signal indicator would not work. The one day my headlights just quit working as well. I checked and double checked all fuses and nothing was wrong. So a buddy and I tore down my bike to add some new parts and to try and fix whatever was the issue. We ended up finding that my headlights were in working order, we could not get them to turn on with the switch on the bars so we ran another hot line and toggle switch, and it worked fine. The weird thing is that when we put the bike back together, my gauge cluster had seemed to fix it's self. My fuel gauge and turn signal indicator were working fine. I no longer have the bike as I sold it to a co-worker, but the gauge cluster is working just fine. Good luck with the fix, not sure if this has helped but it is the only experience that I have with the matter.

So moral of the story is : Take it apart and put it back together and hope it works.

I've done that on more than one occasion and it works.

Thanks guys, great tips and gave me some new direction. I'm going to take a closer look at the harness connectors, take em apart, clean and reconnect.

I am not sure about this one ..."there is a main ground that connects to that relay bracket" but i'll try and locate/verify that as well.

Vellos, I'll reach out to you as I get off work @ 4pm, I'm down in dtc.

Yet again, I appreciate the tips.

Awesome...so not only did i get some great tips on here, Vellos whom I’ve only seen once, at the BBQ last week rides down from boulder and helps me rip apart my bike and troubleshoot my issue.

I can’t thank you enough man, that was pretty generous of you to help me out like that and I really appreciate it.

You're welcome. Let me know if it happens again. Feel free to call if you want to come down and do regular maintenance on your bike; oil, chain, brake pads/fluid, and get that reset button fixed too.
