    8/17, 19 PGR EVENT - CW4 D. R. Carter - Buckley AFB/Aurora/Ft. Collins

This isn't exactly a social event, nor is it really a ride, but if you can make it... Please do so.

    From: http://forums.coloradopgr.org/topic1...t-collins.aspx

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of 30 servicemembers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed.

One soldier, the co-pilot of the CH-47, was from Colorado

    Chief Warrant Officer David R. Carter, 47, of Centennial, Colo. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion), Aurora, Colo.;

Details for the missions are as follows. We need a Denver Ride Captain to step up and coordinate staging locations and times:

Wednesday 17 August: Time is still TBD, but we will NOT be participating in the Dignified Arrivals and transfer ceremony on Buckley. We will be staging outside of the main 6th ave gate and waiting for the procession to exit Buckley. We will then pick up the group and escort to Horan & McConaty located at 11150 E. Dartmouth (Parker/Dartmouth).

Friday 19 August: 1000 (10:00am) Funeral Service at Eastern Hills Church, 25511 E. Smoky Hill Rd., Aurora, Co 80016. The service is expected to conclude at 1130 (11:30am) and Governor Hickenlooper is expected to speak.

Friday 19 August: 1130-1300 Funeral Procession escort from Eastern Hills Community Church to Grandview Cemetery in Ft. Collins

Friday 19 August: 1330 Interment Service at Grandview Cemetery, 1900 W. Mountain Ave, Ft. Collins
Please watch for Ted's or Charger's or my updates for any time changes.

There will be great interest for this hero. Lets have a strong showing to honor him and support his family.

Wednesday 17 August: Time is still TBD, but we will NOT be participating in the Dignified Arrivals and transfer ceremony on Buckley. We will be staging in a parking area just North and East outside of the main 6th ave gate and waiting for the procession to exit Buckley. We will then pick up the group and escort to Horan & McConaty located at 11150 E. Dartmouth (Parker/Dartmouth).

ETA for the remains of Chief Warrant Officer David R. Carter: 1300 hrs (1:00 pm)

Because this is an estimate and there is always the possibility of early arrival we will stage a bit early
so that those who have ID and are preapproved to go on base may depart as soon as
the briefing is completed. Those entering the Base should enter as a group. I will ask for a volunteer
to lead the group in and out. There will be a number of other organizations participating with
the PGR including the Combat Vets. I am requesting that all attend the briefing.

Capt. Troy Brown has advised that the arriving aircraft will be parked in a different place than before.
He will be sending a map of the Base showing where to park the bikes.
I will have that map with me at the briefing.
The participants will form an honor line without flags at the aircraft.
Then form and provide a parade escort out.
The remainder of the bikes will join the escort after the procession leaves the Main Gate.
Exact details of how the procession will be structured will be provided at the briefing after
I receive information from the Funeral Director.

Thanks fror your cooperation in honoring this hero!!

Staging at the parking lot outside of the Main Gate: 1145 hrs (11:45am)
    Briefing: 1200 hrs (12:00 pm)

John Harris will have water at the staging site.

Friday 19 August: 1000 (10:00am) Funeral Service at Eastern Hills Community Church 19697 E. Smoky Hills Road, Centennial, CO. The service is expected to conclude at 1130 (11:30am) and Governor Hickenlooper is expected to speak.

Staging at the church: 0845hrs (8:45 am)
    Briefing: 0900 hrs (9:00 am)
    Flag line: 0915hrs (9:15 am)

FLAGS WILL BE NEEDED FOR A FLAGLINE AT THE CHURCH AND AT GRAND VIEW CEMETERY. CAN SOMEONE COMMIT TO BRING THEM.

Friday 19 August: 1130-1300 Funeral Procession escort from Eastern Hills Community Church to Grandview Cemetery in Ft. Collins
According to the Horan and McConaty Funeral Director, the route will be be to follow I25 to the exit for highway 14, then to Mulberry and finally
to the Cemetery recognizing that there will be a few short jogs on other streets. The escort will be led by the Colorado State Patrol.

I would suggest that a Ft Collins (Northern area) staging area might be in or near the Denny's parking lot near the I25 exit ramp on
Lincoln (Lincoln runs parallel to East Mulberry, highway 14) for those not wishing to travel South and then return North.
This would allow an entrance to highway 14 at Dawn Avenue as the procession passes by.
I will advise the escort riders to be alert for the inclusion of the Ft Collins riders and open the line for them.
Otherwise the Northern area riders could wait at the Cemetery.

Friday 19 August: 1330 Interment Service at Grandview Cemetery, 1900 W. Mountain Ave, Ft. Collins

Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.
