    Durango 2011 - September 10th and 11th

    ** RESCHEDULED **

I was just informed that I'm already booked for this Sunday 9/11. I'm sorry, I completely forgot about it.

I think it was just going to be Cornfed and me. Depending on the weather I'm looking at the following weekend as an option (Sept 17/1. My only concern is its getting pretty cold in the early mornings and this trip calls for leaving at 6am and riding at elevation.

    Original feeler thread here:

    http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forum...ad.php?t=41018

    http://mapq.st/pKbT0F

    When and where

    Saturday and Sunday, September 10th/11th.

Meet up for breakfast and pep talk at Jan's Restaurant in Buena Vista, CO

    304 US Highway 24 South
    Buena Vista, CO 81211
    (719) 395-6940

Arrive at Jan's @ 8:00 AM -- eat some food, maps handed out and pep talk.
    KSU at 9:00 AM

Southies should meet at the Acorn Gas station at 8/24 and be prepared to leave at 6:00 AM

Northies should meet at MOCO and also be prepared to leave at 6:00 AM

It's about 100 miles to Buena Vista from both locations.

    The route

From Buena Vista we'll head to Gunnison, Lake City, South Fork, Pagosa Springs and then finally Durango.

Return trip goes through the incredible San Juan mountains and Black Canyon.

The total mileage for this trip is between 900 and 1000 miles. We're doing roughly 500 miles per day, expect each day to be up to 12 hours.

    Estimated Cost
We'll be getting a hotel in Durango. I don't foresee having a problem getting a place for us ad-hoc given that this is the weekend after labor day weekend.

Between fuel, food and lodging I'm budgeting $200.

    Want to go?

We did this as a club in 2007. 25,000 miles and 3 states later Durango 2007 still ranks as one of my all-time most memorable motorcycle rides. If you're interested in going, please reply here.

Make sure that you and your bike are up for the trip. I recommend changing out your oil and coolant before hand and taking care of any problems or service items. You don't want to find yourself stranded hundreds of miles from home.

Why would I need to change my coolant? Oh I guess the 25,000 miles is going to be too much for it.

Guess you'd have to have a few tire stops in there too

I think the coolant clause was added due to an isolated circumstance

I would also suggest checking your chain/sprockets, tires, toolkit and seat foam

    Head count so far:

    Clovis
    Bornfreewild (or whatever, aka Christi)

    Maybe:

    Cornfed
    Grim

I'd also like to sign up John K and Grim, they just don't know they're going yet

As for the world and the worst they can say is no!

    So "for reals" list:

    Grim, Clovis, Bornfree.

    Probables: Cornfed

Regarding the coolant, the idea is to take care of easy mechanical service points early. When I changed my coolant (after 4 years) it was pretty dirty.

It's not about the wife, that would be too easy. HOA has given us a deadline of Sept 15 to get our landscaping done and we r pushing it. So if we get it finished before the 10th Im in. If not I'll be either layin sod or building a deck while u guys r heading west. Wish me luck.

    Re: Durango 2011 - September 10th and 11th

Did this ride 2...now maybe 3 years ago. Rain Gear..We froze buttz about the same time that year between E-F. It turned dusk, and even though it was warmer as we got to Durango....We were cold. Also, never so many bugs on my lid evar!

Suggest many get off bike breaks. There were times where I though my ass was going to die.

Lastly... Between B-C was one of the most beautiful rides ever. But, here is a Carrie warning. You gain confindence rather quickly and due to the wide long turns.. you want start rockin that canyon(Bad move my part). Careful through the tunnels...They are blind. Known for wrecks(speaking from expeierence) ask others they all called out the tunnel I wrecked in. I went in Hot..and the mountain dew bottle that someone littered made a lowside unforgiveable. Its a great ride...have an awesome time. Matty might have some opinions also..BTW we also hit Telluride and rode the back side to Ouray. Friggen unbelieveable views. Have a great time..one I wont forget thats for sure..

    Re: Durango 2011 - September 10th and 11th

Riding straight through from Buena Vista to Durango is about 5-6 hours. With stops 7-8. We'll be leaving Jan's at 9am. I'm thinking that as long as we're pulling in to Durango by 7pm we can avoid the cooler air and grab some dinner.

Carrie, are you thinking about doing this one? This is going to be my last "big" ride of the season.

Also, for this trip (as with all trips) I'll provide maps and list the plan stops. Can everyone go 150 miles in between fill ups? I think that's about the mileage I got on my R1 which wasn't exactly fuel friendly (especially with my big like mountain ass). For example from Buena Vista to Lake City is about 150 miles. We can stop in Gunnison if needed (85 miles from Buena Vista) but being that this is a longer trip I'd prefer to limit the gas stops so we have more time for clicky clicks on the scenic parts (pictures).

Anyhow, if you're bike gets less then 150 miles (or 150 miles is really pushing it) let me know and we can plan accordingly.
