    Question Denver to Snowmass

Anyone ever ridden the route from Denver (up 285 to 24 to 82) to Snowmass around this time of year? I am assuming that the roads are open but what about conditions of 24 and 82? Sand, gravel, traffic etc. There is a chance I will be riding it this weekend and wanted to try and get a heads up before I lit off into the sunset...Based on today's events I dont want to go up 70 all the way.
    Thanks!

I just went to Aspen/snowmass last week. Roads were great. Independence pass would be pretty fun on a bike (I was in a car). Didn't see any sand, it was probably swept up for the bike race. Couple of spots on the way down that are only 1 lane so be careful. It was chilly at the top of the pass (50's and windy), but not bad. I was wishing I was on my bike

    Re: Denver to Snowmass

I rode in the opposite direction this past Sunday, I-70->82->24->285. I found temperatures were same as bodhizafa reported, mid-50's and a welcome change from the city heat!

I don't blame you for wanting to skip I-70. As others have mentioned, the grooved pavement @ Floyd Hill on the downhill is a complete suck.

82 is in decent shape on the west side of Independence pass, smattering of gravel on the tight 10 MPH turns, easily handled if you're paying attention. There is a section or two that is literally 1 and 1/2 lanes wide, easier on a bike than a car Seems like most traffic was going east to west, so enduring I-70 paid off for me.

82 is fine on the east side of the pass, maybe a little sand in a corner or two. The sections of 24 and 285 heading to Denver were clean.
