    New cage tires

Ok, so, I just ordered 4 new Yokohama AVID ENVigor tires for my 2010 RAV4 V6 AWD Sport, in size 235/55R18. $744.80 + another $72 to M&B them when they get here (Ouch!!). But, I needed 'em, as my stock run-flat's are done, and they seem pretty reasonably-priced compared to some of the others in that size, so.....

Anyways, I'll post up what I think of them if anyone else is considering them. I've heard a lot of good things about 'em.

    Re: New cage tires

I have the same Rav 4 model and year. Good to know on the tires, as our stockers are just about done at about 18k miles.

Every June, our Stevinson Toyota dealers run a buy 3 get 1 for a dollar tire deal, so I am just gonna wait for that.

I do not rotate tires at all. From a safety standpoint, it's best to have the tires with the most tread at the rear so if you hydroplane, it's the safer understeer. I've hear a lot of good things about 'em.

Actually, they're pretty cheap for an 18" tire (yeah, dat's how I roll!) . Some of the Michelins are $250/per!

I LOVE my RAV4! Do you guys? Do you have the V6 AWD as well? I got stuck with the stupid SAP package and run-flats (no spare).

The 18's are part of the Sport package. With the 270hp V6, yeah, it gets around...... I surprise a lot of people in it, for sure. 6.4sec 0-60 ain't bad for an AWD box.

That's a fabulous way to ruin the center differential.

It's an open diff. (no clutch pack), how could it possibly ruin anything? Besides, the tires are going to wear unevenly anyways, and the circumference isn't going to change that much. guess I'm not sur ethe logic on this.

    How so?

Oh and for what it's worth, new tires go on the rear, even on a front wheel drive vehicle...

Excellent post, thanks! I got a graphic example of this in Cleveland in the mid-90's with my '92 Turbo Talon AWD. That car wore the rears more, and I hit a big patch of water at 75+ on a very busy 4-lane each way freeway and while I didn't get sideways, it definately "floated", and I was plucking seat foam outta my nether regions when I got to work. Glad to see the industry is finally acknowledging this fact.

LOVE the Rav4. In fact, the 2010 Rav4 V6 AWD is the fastest Toyota production vehicle right now.

I have the sport version as well. Great Colorado car all around. Interior is stupid how much room there is in there.

BTW that Buy 3 get 1 for a dollar just started 3 days ago. What was the price per tire on the yokahamas?

    Re: New cage tires

I have had bad luck with Yokahama tires. Last time I bought a set, two of them had bulging sidewalls after less than 5,000 miles.

I got full credit for the bad tires and ended up putting on a set of Michelin Cross Terrains on my Toyota 4Runner. They are the best tires I have ever had. They ride great. They're quiet, and they have a lot of siping, so they get great traction in the wet and snow. Plus, they have a 50K tread life.

Good luck with the Yokahamas, but consider Michelins next time around.

Thanks, but couldn't afford them. Your comment is the only bad one I've heard about the Yoko's, so we'll see. If there's a mfgr defect like that, I expect the Tire Rack to fix it.

I wish the tires for my truck were <200 a piece... last time I priced out replacements, they were just shy of 400 each
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

What RAV4 do you have? What tire size? That's a lot cheaper than the Yoko's.
