What horrible tragedy! I feel so much for Colin and Vale. Those two have to be absolutely distraught, especially since Marco and Rossi were buddies. RIP

This is horrible news especially since today was my bday WTF! Thanks Marco for everything you have done for the sport!
"When you on the track, you have to be enjoying the moment, you have to be flowing, "Be water, My Friend". You try to be the fastest, and it seems a little beet estupid, 20 riders making the same way, lap by lap, but this simple thing: is very complicated." #99
RIP Marco.
What a horrendous accident, I was completely shocked when I saw that...

Be polite. Be professional. But be prepared to kill everyone you meet.

Yep from what I've heard they were very good buds. Many people believed Rossi would be passing the torch of great Italian racers on to Simoncelli. And this probably explains why I haven't been able to find anything from Rossi commenting on what happened. There hasn't been a peep out of Rossi on this and I can imagine he's taking this really hard. Especially after one of the pictures I found on a UK website that was taken basically in front of the three of them. It shows Simoncelli basically being sucked under Edwards bike, with his head impacting Rossi's front end.
I'm going to post, and please if it offends anyone I'm sorry and I can take it down. It has been on other sites though:
The real crappy thing, is both Colin and Valentino just watch it unfold before their eyes and can't do a thing about it. It happened so fast. I think Rossi knew something was up, after he saved it and came back on the track to look back and saw Simoncelli laying there. He knew what happened, you can tell by his body language in all the videos shown, that he just sits up and shrugs as he rides off. It's got to be devastating to the guy.
Either way, what a real shitty day...

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.

I'm sure everyone in the paddock is extremely upset at this. And I truly feel for Rossi and Edwards. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I contributed to a friend's death, even if I couldn't change a damned thing about what I did.
I hope they get some inner peace about what happened, and I really hope that Simoncelli's friends and family are doing ok.
So sad
With the way he was improving, it would have been wonderful to see his riding style mature over the years. A great talent was cut short. RIP
Wow, just saw all this....
Sad news.

Trying to be as respectful as possible, I still don't understand how it happened? I've watched the vid a couple of times and I'm still not sure how he and his bike veered to the right? As Colin is approaching him, you see Marco's bike going much slower than the others, crossing the track to the right and it almost looks like Marco is slumped over the right side a little too. I can only wonder if something happened to him before hand? Almost as if the side of his body was dragging before Colin ever got there.
Did I watch this correctly?
he was losing grip, got on the throttle to regain it. When he got it back, his bike was still pointing to the right, along with all his body weight from hanging off in the middle of the turn.
I don't know if I've ever seen a bike veer off as much as he did, usually by then it's lost and they end up highsiding

Some videos have Bautista's bike feed who was directly behind Simoncelli that will show what happened before the crash, Sean.
Edit:
This video has Bautista's feed:

YOURE NOT EVEN MY REAL DAD!
Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen that view and it makes a lot more sense. I know he got a lot of heat in the beginning of the year, but over the season he had found a less abrupt way of staying at the front. Marco just kept looking better and better. He was definitely on his way to becoming an even greater racer.
Yea he had the most exciting riding style that made great races this really is shocking, watching the race when it happened there was no doubt that anyone could survive that what a sickening feeling.
Here's a decent tribute article, I assume we'll have many more to come.
