    race shock opinions please

Since I busted my arm I decided to build a new bike.. I bought a 03' zx6rr real cheap. I bought a double penske rear shock for it for like $720 new. I was looking at used stuff but most of them have been modified or changed for one reason or another and there is no way to identify if the shock was specifically valved for the zx6rr so I decided it was safer to buy a new shock so i'd feel comfortable. (for $200 more i get piece of mind)

Ok, that being said, I am a novice and I suck. Should I just use the stock shock and spring and send this Penske back? $ 700 is 2 sets of tires..

just curious what the more experienced guys think. I was told by one person that these shocks can seize up?? My bike was a stunt bike in its previous life.. so it was probably abused a bit also... opinions?

Quit being scared and buy a used Penske! :P If it's not valved right, have someone reputable rebuild it for you after you've put some time on it. Being a newb, you probably wouldn'y know the difference right now anyway.

    Re: race shock opinions please

Yeah, no kidding. The only problem I have with Penske is that they use standard threads- so I had to buy some wierd stuff to service them. Other than that, they're brilliant. Ohlins is really nice, too. As is a lot of other stuff out there. And a fair amount of stock stuff is starting to be decent in its own right. I don't remember the '03 636 being too bad as is- make sure it's pretty close in set up.

This is a picture of a friend of mine on a stock suspended '03 636 at IMI...
