I agree with Vance. There are some great actors in this film. I don't think Ridley wanted an actor in it that would be bigger than the film. He has always used up and coming actors; Sigourney Weaver in Alien(1979, Harrison Ford in Bladerunner (1982), Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis in Thelma and Louise (1991),Russell Crow in Gladiator(2000), etc. All of them became huge after they were in Ridley Scott films. I think American Gangster is one of the only exceptions to that where he had Crowe and Denzel Washington star well after they had won their academy awards and become huge stars.

I just watched it once, so I might've missed those guys. Yeah I meant no HUGE actors. I know it's scifi, but there still is a "realism" factor. That's one reason I also never watch the "making of / behind the scenes" stuff for scifi/fantasy movies but rarely. It ruins it for me. Also why I love Indy/Arthouse movies with total unknowns, makes it "more real" to me, in some ways.

I would disagree only on one point there Jim.
Harrison Ford was already very well known because of Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back --- and let's not forget the explosion of star power he gained with Raiders of the Lost Ark the year before Blade Runner. Blade Runner was still very "art house" for him because it was so noir and he was more the anti-hero comparatively speaking while Hollywood was pushing him into that "leading man" machismo image.

However - you're right in the fact that when they filmed it Ridley Scott didn't see Harrison Ford as the "it" man yet. He really thought it would be the break out film for Rutger Hauer more than Ford as I remember from the interviews years later - which in a way it was. It got him a massive string of "B" grade starring roles in the 80s as I remember it (Ladyhawke anyone?).
...Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

Don't forget Idris Elba, may not be a household name here, but in the UK he's very respected for things like:

Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

Yep. That's the issue--money over creative license. Water your movie down and get more $$ or stick to your guns and make the R-rated movie it needs to be.

Sounds like Scott's already given in. Great.

Agreed... That makes me a sad panda to read that Scott could be watering down his movie and adding Twilight sparkles... and laughing all the way to the bank about it.

    Exactly.

Our only "hope" is that there'll be an unrated BluRay/DVD release--and given his 15 Blade Runner versions, I think it's a possibility--but that still doesn't make up for it...

Cool bottom pic, over the clouds. I've always thought the SG1 Battleship looked like the ones I built out of Space Legos as a child, heh. Even the same shape.

Way cooler ships in SciFi land, and my Lego ships were far cooler than that POS.
