    Racer poll

Whose responsibility is it to make a safe pass?

    Situation –
    Who
Racer A – A former National Champion on a Vintage bike
Racer B – A club level #1 plate holder who has competed in a few National events on a current 600

    Time
    Expert Practice

Racer A heading into T5 a double apex right hand turn
Racer B attempts to pass Racer A on the outside. Racer B slams the door on Racer A before he was clear. Racer B looses the front from the contact and crashes. Racer A remains upright and continues with practice. Racer B comes into the pits and begins to yell at Racer A.

    What are your opinions?

Doesn't matter what the riders ability is.

The overtaking rider is responsible for making a clean pass.

Tell Mathison(sp) to shut his little whining pie hole.

No, but that will affect the ego's after the fact...

Exactly. This is about the most clear and concise rule in racing, period. How people continue to read ambiguity into it is beyond me.

Your right, Shrieve crashed 3 times this weekend... During this crash, he was not clear of Steve Brown. But some how Shrieve thinks it was Browns fault because he was on a slower bike . I guess Sheive thinks that Old guys on Old bikes can not corner as fast as he can....
Shrieve then threatened to call the AMA and shut down the SMRI, because he is powerful...
However this made me start to think *can you smell the smoke?*

I can pretty much guess what the AMA's response is going to be to that one...

Tell him to come up and race MRA for a weekend, maybe Turpin can make him cry. It will be cool!

    Re: Racer poll

I understand the responsability to pass clean but I always understood that the rider in front has the line. If your behind its just as much your responsability to avoid contact. Common sense tells you that if your ahead by half a tire length that you cant cut in on someone (or at least you would think) and that you both have to maintain your line but if my front tire is near your rear tire, you tell me whos responsability is if you cut in on me. I say its mine. I shouldnt be there because as much faith as you may have in your fellow rider the inevitable will happen. I should back off a click and try to pass again later.

Ive been watching the MotoGP 125s and those guys take some questionable risks in my opinion. A lot of stuffing in the corners and crossing of lines.

Does any of this apply to practice - no. Your practicing. I think the slower rider should yeild to the faster and if not possible both riders should hold their respective line through the turn. Whats to be gained from cutting in on someone durring practice - intentional or not.
