I think my battery might be dead. Anybody have a...

A battery tender... I don't know if my battery is capable of accepting a charge, but I'm hoping somebody in the greater DTC area has one that I can come hook up to, and you can let me know what the diagnosis is.

It was starting for awhile, but now I just get clicks. Anyway... just thought I'd throw this out there, before I went to just bought a new battery. From what I'm told this is a new'ish battery, but it must discharge quickly.

    Re: Looking to use...

If it drops below 10 volts, it may be done. A battery tender will eventually charge a discharged battery, but its job is to keep a charged battery charged. A battery charger is what you need, Barn. Got one if you wanna travel to the west side. I bet Dana has one, and he's in your hood.

I can appreciate your desire to determine whether your battery is kaput, but a battery tender is not terribly expensive and is probably a good idea to have on your bike anyways.

Bring the battery by the shop if you can. I can hook it up to the charger and test it for health and such.

I have a battery charger if you need to borrow it. I've only used it on car batteries, but it is adjustable so should work on a motorcycle battery.

+1 on using a battery tender. Cheap and well worth it considering how expensive a new battery can be.

    Re: Looking to use...

I use the shop charger on my bike battery at 2 amps for a few hours and works great. So as long as its adjustable in amperage you'll be fine. Too high of a charge can actually fry it.

Batteries plus around Denver will charge and test your battery for free overnight. They did great for mine. I think most auto parts stores will also do the same.

Brandon, since you have an APE now, you should always have it on the charger when not in use

If you find you need a new one, go with a Yuasa thru TFOG. Mine never fails and I got 18K off the last one

How old's the battery? Eventually all lead acid batteries sulfate and won't hold a charge. Sure you can charge it up but it will die quickly. In my experience even with a tender, they seem to give out around 4 or 5 years.

Thanks again for all the offers everybody. I have to stop by Fay for some other stuff anyway, so I might just have to take Paul up on his offer out of pure geographical convenience. Again though... appreciate it.

And... um... thanks for the title clarification, whoever provided that one. I think it actually helped.

And... um... you're welcome? I was about to move it into the Wanted forum, but since there was already some good technical advice in the replies, I decided it would have greater value here... changing the title just makes it easier for people to find/identify it quickly.
