Speedometer on CBR600 F4i

I have a 2001 CBR 600 F4i. The speedometer (digital) keeps going in and out. It will be working fine one minute, then just drop to 0. I have taken it into a shop and told that I need to get the speed sensor replaced. However, someone else told me that if it were the speed sensor that it wouldn't not work at all, instead of on and off like it is. There isn't a pattern to when it is working and not. Someone told me it could be a weak battery - replaced that - no change.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what it could be??

it could be a loose conection at the sensor. Make sure the plug is fully seated.It could also be a pinched or broken wire.
