    What to do with a salvage car? Runs, just quirks.

    I want to get rid of my gf's salvage title 2003 Ford Taurus.....it just keeps running and has new tires but we upgraded to something bigger. I rather just offload it somewhere instead of dealing with people understanding what salvage means and possibly having issues.

    Thoughts on where to shop it? Carmax?

    Around 105,000 miles
    Sunroof
    Power windows
    Power locks
    Leather
    Keyless Entry

    quirks:
    Salvage Title (I havent physically read the title but will check tonight)
    Was hit in the rear so the trunk sticks
    One of the doors sticks (could be related to the rear getting hit)

    I looked into doing this a few years ago, while the cars are required to be cheap POSes, the entire race & prep can still set you back a few thou for everything.

    I'd look into donating it for the tax credit, if that doesn't help your taxes, at least donating does something good.

    Donating a car can be a good tax write off or a potential flag for an audit (or so they say). The charities that you donate it to don't usually USE the vehicle, they will try to profit from having the car go to auction or something, IIRC.

    Look into selling it to a salvage yard. I had a small 4x4 that was just never going to pass emissions, so I took it to the Pull-N-Save off I-70 and they gave me about $450 for it 3-1/2 years ago. If you're feeling particularly benevolent, you could then donate some of the money to a worthy cause, write off the cash donation, and probably wouldn't get the IRS on your ass for a charitable vehicle donation.

    Ok admin you can move this to the for sale forum and here are the specs.....guess "salvage" doesnt sound that bad to some people as I've got a lot of interest all the sudden. I honestly dont want to screw up her taxes since she is a single mom but i am keeping donating as a option.

    Just put it on craigslist for $1500 and it will disappear in a week. All that matters is whether or not it drives straight, if anyone asks why the trunk sticks just tell them it was hit.

    EDIT: And the bidding starts at $1,501 folks lol
