Looks nice. My question is: Did you pull all the bearings our of the wheels, swingarm, and frame before powder-coating? It looks like you did, but if not, I'd imagine you could damage the rubber seals on all the bearings, and perhaps even damage all the grease in said bearings. I don't think the grease in the frame and swingarm bearings, in particular, are up to 350deg heat. The wheel bearings MAY have high-temp grease in there because of the brakes, like cars do, but since the thermal path isn't as short and straight as it is from the front brakes on a car to the bearings, I'm guessing probably not.

If you didn't pull all the bearings, i hope there was no damage, but it's somethig to think about for all those who want to powder-coat these things.

Does it look like this is my first rodeo or you just trying to show off how smart you are?

What powder coat guy is going to let you put greasy bearings in his oven and who is going to go through all this work to put it back together with old bearings and seals?

CM most powders are 400 degree curing temperature and if you want to put the bearings and seals in with it go right ahead but its not the smartest idea.

Most seals on Motorcycles are made of Viton which has a higher temperature rating and can handle 400 degrees however i would not suggest re-using them as the rubber will get hard faster and begin to crack.

Bearings can handle 400 degrees with no issues for the 10 minutes it takes to cure the powder, as long as you re-pack them with fresh grease once they have cooled down and there is not discoloration. Obviously i would never recommend this but as Tinkerinwstuff said it sure would be pretty dumb to not just replace these items since its already apart.

Only bearings I've heard of failing on the VFR, with machines that regularly go over 100k, are front wheel bearings and the shitty ball bearings in the steering stem.

Too much opportunity for damage of the old swing arm bearings trying to drive them out. Besides the headache of having to tear it apart again later. So $160 bought new swingarm bearings and all the seals.

I am reusing the rollers the previous owner had already installed in the steering stem. Also reusing the bearings in the eccentric hub. Everything else including the seals are new.

Cheap insurance when you've come this far.

Do they use the needle bearings for the front?

I know them! we use them Kaman industrial, Motion Industries, Whisler bearing, so on so forth.

Although when you pay $10 we pay $1.50.

Next time you need a generic ball bearing shoot me a PM.

If you call "owning a 6th Gen" cheating, then yes. I'm not familiar with the shape of a 5th Gen tank, but that yellow one clearly looks just like mine. And the seat is obviously the same as mine. Does that mean you're going with the dual undertail exhaust?

    chicken dinner
Thought you may have seen the build thread over on VFRW

the 5th gen tank is 1/2 gallon smaller and more rounded - fewer lines.

    shown with 5th gen tank

shown with 6gen tank but didn't have the exhaust installed - but it will

Here it is running. I have to build a custom wiring harness and wanted to make sure I had it to the point of running again. This way when I plug in a custom built harness and it doesn't run, I know where to start looking.

finally solved my rear brake master cylinder problem. Found a location where it does not have interference with the exhaust. Just need to knock off those sharp corners and apply paint.

I wish I had the knowledge & time to do something like this. Congrats on all that you've done with that bike. LOVE THE YELLOW! When I retire........hopefully....

For a couple of years I owned a 2006 White Viffer; what an amazing bike. The Givi bags look great on the blue Viffer.
