    Interesting takes on N. Korea

    Here's lib-centric Yahoo touting a "breakthrough":
    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/envoy/u-...152331635.html

    The Dem's take:
"The new agreement "appears to be an important step on a long and difficult path," Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA), ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at a hearing Thursday."

Here's what the US Envoy Glyn Davies actually said (note how these were omitted in the lib-centric Yahoo news:
    http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/02...nuclear-talks/

"There was nothing stylistically or substantively dramatically different in terms of how the North Koreans were presenting their positions," he said."

    And:

"I think we made a little bit of progress," Davies told a news conference where he described the talks as serious and substantive."

    Most telling:
"I think the word 'breakthrough' goes way too far. I don't want anyone to use the word 'breakthrough'," he told reporters."

So, tell me that Fox news biases more than the lib-centric news outlets how? Guess I'm going to use Yahoo only for non-factual news from now on.....

Regardless, I honestly HOPE their new leader and all the other people in power there start being reasonable and that there is a lasting peace in that region.

    A. Not going to bother worrying about a lib or pub spin... We all know it happens. It's up to the individual to not swallow everything one side if willing to spew out. It's up to us to gather multiple sources and piece together some semblance of truth ourselves because the mainstream media isn't about to bite the hand that feeds them.

    B. Lil Kim is just like dear old daddy. they say they're going to stop playing with atom smashers so we give them food. They take the food, then take the nuclear card off the table and put it back in their hand. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

Reasonable as doing whatever we say? Stopping their nuclear programs?

    Doubtful.

True, but I thought that was pretty blatant, totally refusing to print what the guy actually said in an effort to prop their party up.

Nukes guarantee no one fucks with them again, I'd get nukes if I were them too. Totally rational. It would be irrational to expect them to not try.

Exactly. They more everyone else pushes them, the more they can justify needing nukes to defend themselves from everyone else.

Here is what i would do with all this. Pull out of south Korea. Give the north enough rope to hang themselves. When they invade the south put the rest of the world in blast. Make European countries face the north. Sure the south kind of gets screwed but it ends the problem. The world is tired of the us playing poluce man....... cool withdraw all troops from all over the world. Let the next world war start. Come back in once the European countries are crying for help.... AGAIN. But this time we get to use the i told you so and get to use the UN against itself. Sure alot of people are going to die. No matter what anyone does alot of people are going to die.

But you never know maybe the north has just been trying to look tough by starring down their enemy for all these years. Maybe all this has been a bluff. Only one way to find out.

The only reason the US doesn't want them to have nukes: American policy is to look at the world as zero sum. For example lets say there were 100 units of power in the world and all the nuclear powers had 10 units of power and since the US is a super power we get an extra 10 units of power, the rest of the power is scattered around. Every time another country gets nukes we have to give up a little power. We don't like that.

If you look at the world through that lens it make sense. But if you care about stability and lack of wars, well it makes no sense. For example the paks and the indians had been fighting over a stretch of land for thousands of years, they both get nukes, bam all the sudden that stretch of land doesn't look worth dying for, and is being talked about at the table of diplomacy.

You do realize that N. Korea already has nuclear weapons right?

Your plan is nothing more than to allow the entire human race to die.

Thats the thinkng if if all parties are thinking. The end of world war two i think hitler would have pulled that trigger. He was flat out scary in is logic. Look at the way he sacrificed his own troops. You really think he cared if his country got nuked as long as he was able to get some off himself?

Nowhere did it say "breakthrough" there genius. "Important step" doesn't mean "breakthrough". In fact, if you read it, he made it clear it WASN'T and did NOT want it interpreted that way. This was totally ignored by the lib-centric Yahoo, while Fox news printed what he SAID. Reading comprehension. google it.

    Gee...I dunno...

North Korea (officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea or DPRK) has declared that it has nuclear weapons and is believed by many to have nuclear weapons. The CIA assesses that North Korea also has a substantial arsenal of chemical weapons. North Korea was a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but withdrew in 2003, citing the failure of the United States to fulfill its end of the Agreed Framework, a 1994 agreement between the states to limit North Korea's nuclear ambitions, begin normalization of relations, and help North Korea supply some energy needs through nuclear reactors.

On October 9, 2006, the North Korean government issued an announcement that it had successfully conducted a nuclear test for the first time. Both the United States Geological Survey and Japanese seismological authorities detected an earthquake with a preliminary estimated magnitude of 4.3 in North Korea, corroborating some aspects of the North Korean claims.[4]

In April 2009, reports surfaced that North Korea has become a "fully fledged nuclear power", an opinion shared by IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei.[5] On May 25, 2009, North Korea conducted another nuclear test, which is believed to have been the cause of a magnitude 4.7 seismic event.[1] Although there is no official information about the test's location, it is believed that it happened in the north-eastern region near Kilju, the site of North Korea's first nuclear test.[6]

We won't allow them to take the south. There's really nothing to talk about, you can't go to war with people with nuclear weapons. Hence why we don't like people we disagree with to get nuclear weapons. They have them, we have them, china has them, and so does Israel. a N-S war would end badly, for everyone.

It's called MAD. And it's why we never got in to a shooting war with Russia, but fought many proxy wars.

Re: Interesting takes on N. Korea

No see you are thinking poorly. The whole point of giving them the chance to hang is so their allies cant even back them up. With the invasion of the south the north would be left to hang on their own. You really think they cant invade right now? They could steam roll the south right now. We would loose alt of troops but it would kick start a war. I say pull us out of the picture and nothing would change. Think about kim has been doing. He keeps trying to get a response out of the west. If we attack him china and others will follow in his defense. If he hits a defenseless south the world would be outraged. China might be strong but not strong enough to take on the world.
