Thumbs up Advanced Rider Course - Sportbike Techniques - 4/1/12 at Red Rocks Community College

I took this course in 2010, thought it was awesome, and thought every experienced rider should take it, regardless of what they ride - the skills acquired and knowledge gained can benefit all street riders.
If you want more info on it, here is the FAQ that UglyDogRacing posted a link to in the "ABATE Intermediate vs Advanced rider course thread".

The "ARC-ST" is now supported by CDOT's MOST (Motorcycle Operator Safety Training) program, meaning that CO residents save $45 over non-residents (cost is $105 for residents vs. $150 for non-residents).

As of this writing, ABATE has 5 of these classes scheduled this year, including 3 in Ft. Collins and 1 in Co Springs... but the first one of the year will be in the Denver Metro area, at Red Rocks Community College (in Lakewood/Golden) on 4/01.

UglyDogRacing (MRA #29), KFinn (MRA #28 - formerly #173), and I (formerly MRA #24) will be instructors for the course at Red Rocks Community College. Come learn from one of your own!

Space is limited (as of this writing, there are 9 spots left). Click here to sign up.

Bump - this is coming up in just under 2 weeks. There are still 6 slots available, but I have a feeling they're going to fill up quick now that we're inside the 14 day window... especially with the great weather we've been having lately!

Reminds me of that famous line Victor Kiam used to say about Remington shavers: "I liked it so much I bought the company"... I liked to course so much, I wanted to become an instructor for it!

Are you three going to be teaching the other classes there later in the season?

The only two classes scheduled at Red Rocks CC after April 1st are May 13th and July 7th. Two other instructors are scheduled for the May date and they have only done our schedules through the end of June so the July class is a possibility.

I just moved to the area, but I know that where I'm from this course is the same as the beginner course but with your own motorcycle. Is this true?

$105 for better skills to save your life on a day to day basis? I'd say that's worth it x1000. Thought about riding over the passes for this one, but I'm going to be out of town. I took an ARC class a few years ago and it was awesome! If I could, I would sign up for this one to learn some new skills.

With Bob and Jim teaching these classes, there is going to be A LOT to learn!

Looks like I'm gonna try to get into the class on July 7th, also at Red Rocks CC. Speaking of which, the ABATE site shows 3 separate classes at RRCC: the aforementioned April 1st, May 13th, and July 7th. So that makes for a total of 7 classes in this area: 3 @ Ft. Collins, 3 @ Lakewood/Golden, and 1 @ Colorado Springs...according to the ABATE site.

I've just been informed there was a cancellation for this Sunday's class if anybody wants to jump on it.

+1 on this course (and a bump on the thread), also took it 2010. I'm sending my son to it this year.

I was thinking of taking it again with him, but decided to spend my money on the Total Control Level 1 course at the end of April. Anything that induces you to purchase kevlar-lined jeans has to be a good thing, right?

Re: Advanced Rider Course - Sportbike Techniques - 4/1/12 at Red Rocks Community Coll

This is a good class. I'd go for sure if I didn't have free access to the Military SportBike Riders Course (basically the equivalent if you read the FAQ Spiderman provided.) The Army requires it at least annually, and the BRC II course every 3 years, which I think is great. What the Military REALLY needs to do is implement something like this mandatory training for cages as well...

On that note though, it's an excellent class. I especially like how they make you do things like advanced stopping drills, such as braking in a corner and forcing you to actually brake to the point of locking up your front wheel, and recovering, something a lot of even more experienced riders have only ever done in emergencies, if ever. I'm excited to do it again this year, now that I've got linked brakes, race ABS and advanced traffic control.

Anyway, for those of you who can, take the course! Worth every penny, and might save you money on insurance as well...
