    Race Fuel Placebo?

Went out to Byers today to the HPR. Watched the MRA first timers. Met some neat guys.

Anyways, bought some of the race fuel for *cough* $9 a gallon *cough*. Started the bike, it sort of stuttered and was a bit jerky at first, but by the time I made the road, I am convinced that the bike just ran better, all the way back to Denver.

Of course I wonder now whether this wasn't some sort of placebo effect, something that I wanted to be true rather than something that was true.

Ferinstance, smaller throttle openings seemed to gain greater acceleration than on the pump gas available hereabouts.

One thing that isn't imaginary is the odor of the exhaust sure is nice.

That is good stuff. I remember when it was 6 bucks a gal.

Which and how much fuel did you get?
How much pump gas did you dilute it with?

More than likely just in your head, the 2-3 hp gains (on pure gas) can only really be seen on the dyno. Bikes are tuned running race gas so that would be the only way you get full potential.
In the days of VP U4 we would empty our tanks and run them on pump gas between uses because the fuel was corrosive to seals and gaskets. I am not sure about the newer fuels because I haven't used anything but pump gas for several years now, race gas is not worth running at my level.

Bueller's right, you'd have a really hard time feeling any gain with your butt dyno. The stuff is a different formula than pump gas, though, and maybe it cleaned out something a bit, so perhaps you felt snappier response as a result. One other factor is the temp of the gas. The ground temp out there might have been pretty low, so perhaps your bike 'liked' the cooler go-juice and combusted it slightly better?

One thing I can't argue about is race gas does smell pretty sweet.

Yeah. I remember when ethyl was 32 cents a gallon. And a brand new Volkswagen bus was a couple dollars shy of $2,000.

I sort of figured it was hopeful thinking. Hope you all have a great weekend, and keep the rubber side down.

race fuel is more fun ,it burn faster so engine is quicker and bike could be geared down on final drive to make it faster on speed and decelaration, then put some dunlops on and be even faster, and get tire warmers so you dont have to throw away 20 laps a day and be even faster ,oh and get a newer bike ,even faster ,and if you do track _ GO FASTER
