    GSXR front onto SV1000

Yep, I'm a noob here. But I thought I'd share. I know there's plenty of SVs in Colorado...and even more GSXRs to get parts from. This winter, I put the front fork from a GSXR 750 onto my 2003 SV1000 naked. I took today off and just got back from the first shake-down run in the mountains. Indeed, me thinks this swap was worth it.

Back before Christmas, I found an '02 GSXR 750 front fork on Craigslist. While I know that this generation may not be optimal if your goal is track day bliss, I also know that my stock front fork was a turd and needed to go. Additionally, I've never been a fan of the black/gold forks on a silver-framed SV. I was very fortunate that my wife, Dad, and Stepmom bought the fork for me for Christmas. I was also very fortunate in selling my stock parts.

This is what I started with. I have a 2003 SV1000N that is mostly stock. It's been painted black with carbon-esque decals under the clear(they don't look nearly as bad as that sounds). But that front fork...yikes...it just looks like something off of an old Sportster. It had to go.

...and then I found this. There are pros/cons of using a fork this old. Cons would be that there is no brake upgrade with this fork and that it could just be an old POS. The pros for me were that is was silver and that you could still use the OEM ignition lock.

I think the install went pretty smoothly. My biggest setbacks were my budget. I had to sell this before I could buy that. I was able to reuse the headlight brackets...just cut and bend them to fit over the new tubes. I made my own stem nut removal socket. I was able to use the nut-n-bolt method for an axle removal tool. And, I was able to "adapt" the triple clamp to take by handlebar instead of using the clipons.

...and the end result. (Well, almost. I need to re-route that brake line.)

sold the OEM front fork: -$250
carbon fiber front fender from GB Moto: $190
sold the OEM 310mm rotors: -$100
    front 320mm rotors from 99-07 Hayabusa: $75
    axle removal "tool": $3
    castle nut "tool": $12
    DOT4 brake fluid: $4
    various bolts: $5

Total Cost: $219 (+seemingly unlimited smiles)

    Re: GSXR front onto SV1000

I have a K5 1000s with a K6 gixxer 1k fork setup. She handles pretty well, but could use a shock upgrade/change out. Never been a fan of cartridge forks, so when I found this bike already setup like this, I jumped on it last DEC.
