TOOELE — Shane Turpin, a native of Salt Lake City, has been accepted to compete as a Wild Card entrant in the FIM Superbike World Championship USA round at Miller Motorsports Park's BigM Weekend, scheduled for May 26-28, 2012. For the Memorial Day Weekend event, Turpin will be competing at his home circuit and taking to the world stage on a Ducati 1198R prepared by Boulder Motor Sports, a renowned Ducati service shop based in Boulder, Colo.

Turpin, who has been racing competitively since the 1990s, is a regular competitor in the Utah SportBike Association's Masters of the Mountains series at Miller Motorsports Park, and holds multiple No. 1 plates in that series as well as the Colorado-based MRA race series. He has also competed in AMA Pro Road Racing with top-10 finishes in both the Superbike and Supersport classes. In addition to his vast racing experience, Turpin is also a riding instructor for the Yamaha Champions Riding School based at Miller Motorsports Park, which he credits for fine-tuning his riding technique.

"I am extremely excited and honored to have been accepted as a Wild Card entry in the FIM Superbike World Championship event at Miller Motorsports Park," says Turpin. "It's my home track, where I've completed countless laps and have great track knowledge. I've been racing with the Boulder Motor Sports team for three years now, and I feel at home with the entire group. They're a great team who continue to provide me with the expertise and equipment to ride my best. We began our testing back in late February and continue to make improvements in preparation for the Memorial Day weekend event. I look forward to representing our sponsors, families, friends and my country."

"We are very excited and proud that Shane has been accepted as a Wild Card for the USA Round of the Superbike World Championship at Miller Motorsports Park," said Boulder Motor Sports' Brian Sharp. "The team is working very hard to prepare for the race, and we are looking forward to competing in a world-class event like the Superbike World Championship at Miller Motorsports Park."

Boulder Motor Sports is proudly sponsored by HBR, Bike Sport Developments UK, Pierobon, Motul Lubricants, Panta Fuel, Ohlins USA, Yoyodyne, Drive Systems, Metal-Tech Racing Components, Performance Technology Levers, Arai Helmets, Alpinestars, Apex Autobody and TJ Grossi.

Sponsorship inquiries are welcome. For more information, please contact Brian Sharp at (303) 495-3416 or brian@bouldermotorsports.com.

The May 26-28 BigM Weekend at Miller Motorsports Park will include the USA Round of the FIM Superbike World Championship, plus support races from AMA Pro Road Racing including the National Guard American SuperBike Championship, the GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship, the Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Championship and the Vance & Hines XR1200 Championship, as well as the second annual DRIFT BigM Superbike Super Celebrity Mega Kart Showdown. There will also be live music throughout the weekend and a major tribute to our armed forces in recognition of Memorial Day.

Shane is still on track to race at SBK - he's training hard and going to be ready to GO! BMS is working hard to get the bike back together and ready for more testing before the race!

    I can't wait!

I was wondering why he wasn't racing MRA this weekend. Hopefully he'll be back after SBK and more healing

That dude needs to train while wrapped in bubble wrap. Last year he raced with broken legs, and this year he is going to race with a broken back?! Damn.

This weekend, Brian from Boulder Motorsports said that are just focusing on WSBK. So even if he didn't get hurt, he still wouldn't have been there this weekend.

Colter Dimick is focusing on AMA this year. Dalton's plans have changed and he may make it out for a few MRA rounds.

I was really impressed with Turpin. He has a broken back and is racing against some of the finest riders in the world. Plus, I'm sure his bike was great, but it couldn't have had the support of other teams ($$). All of those factors and he was able to hang? That is cool!

btw: It's so cool watching pros race a track that I've actually been on. It makes the race that much more intriguing.

He would have been mid pack in the AMA Superbike race. I wish he would have been more competitive but good on him for actually doing something us mere mortals only dream of. I was cheering for him!

Being out there, you could see how much more speed the regular guys had on the straight. They had at least 20mph on him, it was crazy.

A lot of that was their ability to get the bike upright and WOT so much faster. I am sure their bikes were a little better too. The cool thing is that it really put in perspective how unbelievably fast those guys are.

And insane how Josh Hayes was running 1:49's. That's FLYING on an AMA SBK.

Yea in Turpin's interview he said the place that the top guys are so fast is getting it upright and WOT like you said. He mentioned their ability to have faith in the traction control and really utilize it to the max.

I'm blown away by how much faster they were. Turpin is fast as shit

i sat on the final corner before the straight for most of the races, fawkin insane how hard they were comin out of that corner. they made it look like the track is all jacked up on the exit because of how unsettled the bikes were rippin out of the turn, it was awesome.
