    Tire size question

I work at a dealership and this guy just got his z100 tires swapped out

they are only like a half season old and my dealership was going to just toss them out so i grabbed them

    the rear is 190/50/17

My bike needs a rear tire bad but takes a 180/55/17

    Will it fit?

Most likely. It's just a different profile.

    Yes it will fit.

The first number is the width. 2nd number is this sidewall hight. And 3rd numba is the rim size.

It'll look sweet, although fast riders notice difference in cornering.

So your rear will b a lil wider. And lower profile

    Re: Tire size question

    190 / 50 is designed to fit on a 6" wide wheel

    180 / 55 is supposed to be on a 5.5 wheel

    will it work? Probably.

    Will it be right. No.

    Re: Tire size question

I've seen guys go to a 190 when they should be on a 180. They were thinking they were easier to tip in and better performing. Not the case.

However, if you need to save money it's not going to hurt. I ran 190s on my R6 because I got a free set of tires once.

And for what its worth... Because you are putting it on a rim that its not designed for you will get a different profile out of the tire. Believe it or not it will change how you corner and some people cant stand it.

Google the bike and the tire size. Tons of people have played with different sizes, there will probably be something somewhere on a forum.

    Re: Tire size question

Disclaimer... the size on the sidewall of these tires are not necessarily the actual size of the tires. A 180/55 could actually be a 184/55 or 178/55. Depends on the brand. Kind of like shoes!

Knowing this, the black and white of the situation is that the 190/50 should be 10 mils wider over all. Basically a little bit over a 1/4 " bigger on each side of the tire. Check if your present tire is very close to rubbing your chain or swing arm now. If so, then the 190 will probably rub.

Additionally, the 180/55 is 630mm in diameter where as the 190/50 is 622mm is diameter overall. Thus the 190/50 is 8mm "shorter" overall. But since we don't give a shit as to what happens with a tire above the axle then the tire will actually remove 4mm from your rear ride height.

So, the tire will fit. But you might find that you will have more chickens strips. You might also find that your bike will have a tenancy to want to tank slap at higher speeds. If that happens, then lower your front end by this 4mm and you will be back to normal.
