Rodents would be my guess, unless you're in the habit of riding through (at WOT no less) a field of sun flowers?

Yup, some squirrel/mouse/rat has been using your airbox as a safe storage place for their seeds all winter. Maybe some mesh over your intakes?

You haven't been riding enough? You're bike probably got bored. Thats what I do when I get bored, I find something to munch on, ya know, like sunflower seeds. I like the cracked pepper ones best.

Rodent is my guess as well but I haven't seen any chewed up wiring, no claw marks, and I didn't see any poops or nesting.

Well yeah he's using it as a storage facility. I'd sure hope you don't poop in your kitchen! lol. Besides if I'm not mistaken that's a K&N filter, correct? Trust me when I tell you that in my experience filter oil is not a pleasant taste. Not to mention it's held together by metal mesh, and he can't get to the sides of the rubber because it's held down by the airbox lid.

that's bound to affect performance just a tad. You can compensate however by gutting the can.

That's a fairly impressive stash. I've been riding all winter but I'm feeling the need to check it just the same!

It is a K&N. Luckily I believe this was an issue for the p.o and as long as the little bastard didn't hitch a ride I should be good.

Well when ur done cleaning up that mess put a cpl sheets of fabric softner in there. Rodents can't stands the smell. I had a squirrel make a nest in my runner. Cost over 5 bills to repair the damage it left behind.

Re: A Gift in my air box.

A lot of people take the screens out of their intakes, convinced it's going to make them more HP (minimal gain, if anything), which then lets these annoying pests find a PERFECT home. I've had the screens in mine since new, and in over 11 years, have never had a problem.

Might want to see if you can't put the screens back in it of it came with them stock. My guess is it did, and someone removed them. I can;t imagine someone designing the intake without them.

Probably wouldnt be difficult to tack some wire mesh to it, but it didn't occur at my place and I've never had issue before.

for sure. don't store it outdoors next to a birdfeeder and you shouldn't have a problem

Re: A Gift in my air box.

I don't think there is any issue if you ride the bike enough; rodents only make homes where they know things do not move much.

I know Josh rides frequently, so really this is only a issue if the bike sits in one spot for a long time. My guess is the person you bought the VFR from hadn't rode in a long time or at least sat all winter.
