That's too funny. I've never seen anything like that! At first I was like, where the hell are the sunflowers around town. So, it must be from bird feeders.
The only thing I've found in our air boxes are big chunks of rubber from my racing days and her track days.
BTW - Our bikes didn't come with screens, either. Well, I guess Kim's has a screen. That front nose piece for the supposed "ram-air".

I think all the Gixxer's had screens, even now. I can't imagine designing something that didn't, for just this reason. I've seen that before on Gixxer.com where the guy had removed his screen "for more performance".
