    Doing Trailridge this Friday, 5/25/12

Might actually take Chris S.'s suggestion and get there and take some pics at sunrise, depending on the temps, but it might end up being a little too chilly this early.

Regardless, I'm going up and over Friday in preparation for my Durango trip this weekend.

    Anyone?

Cool! Thanks for the update. Guess I'll hold off to do the "sunrise" ride Chris suggested. Wanna go do it Friday with me?

Funny, I thought about doing a trip to Durango this weekend but figure it to be busy being a holiday weekend.

Maybe, I dunno. Clovis says the hotels are pretty booked up, but, there isn't too many hotels there, so it can't be that packed. I can't see Durango as a big holiday vacation spot, at least not like Havasu etc..

Happened to ride Trail Ridge yesterday. It's in great shape. If a possible evening rain down low Thursday night isn't a snow up high, it should in excellent shape early Friday morning. Couple of years ago, on a July 4th no less, entered the park at 8:30a and I think there were only a dozen cars or so the entire length! The lighting was spectacular. If there is sunshine early Friday AM expect the same.

A screen capture from yesterday's vid...

The wind was HOWLING up high yesterday. It overwhelmed the tucked away mic/audio. If faint interest, the onboard vid edited to 4:50 with tunes from the Jeremiah Johnson movie soundtrack accompanying...

Yeah, looks like I'll play it by ear, and just call them today, and tomorrow morning. If it's closed, I'll skip it and probably just come in to work.

Thanks for the update guys. Sorry ssuton, looks like I'll just be playing this by ear. This will just be the first time, so......

Thanks again for the updates guys!

Crap! Trailridge is closed now. I'll call later this afternoon, but if that doesn't change by then, I'll cancel and just plan on going to work on Friday.

For reference (I saved it in my cell for future use):

Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

I just called one last time. Gonna cancel my vacation day and just work. Ah well. Not surprising this early in the season.

They just said weather conditions. I called the number a little while ago, and then told the boss I was cancelling my day off.

If I were you, I'd put that # above in my cell phone for future reference. I have a friend who's going to be in that area on his bike, and said he was thinking of going over it on his way home from Brek this sunday, and it would suck to get there, and have to backtrack to I-70 again, or go all the way to Walden and down the Poudre.

I'm a little bummed, but, there will be other times.

    Good luck!

Road crews are plowing Trail Ridge Rd from both sides. Currently there are white-out conditions & it's very icy up there. ks

Tell me about it. Unless I put on my old M3 tires and put some extra miles on 'em, my riding all weekend is shot. My current rear M5 is toast. Hmmm, do I have enough tread on 'em to make it worth spending $40 and a few hours of my time to do it?????
