We don't spend a fraction of the amount on Chinese goods the fear-mongers would have you believe. Think about your monthly outlay and ask yourself if your mortgage or food dollars are going to China. Ask yourself if your entertainment dollars are going to China. Ask yourself if that Made in Thailand Trumpet is Chinese. It's not.

    Chill.

The biggest difference: China has abundant natural resources. It will take them far less than 40 years to become the dominant world economy. I don't fear the improvement in Chinese vehicles, however. As our economy has adapted to technology and service as opposed to brute manufacturing might, or standard of living has improved enormously(think 1940s versus 2012). Those that change and adapt will flourish.

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "undocumented pharmacist"

Try and go to Mallwart and buy 10 items that are not made in China, or without significant components made in China.

Along those lines, it's funny how many die-hard "patriots" think if you buy an American car, they have no idea what percentage of the parts might be Jap, Thai, Chinese, whatever. I don't know the exact figures, but would be interested to see what it is nowadays...

Yes, of course. But it's hardly a significant percentage of the whole. Plus, every consumer has the choice where to shop.

I have not been inside Walmart, Target, or their ilk in months...

I remembered watching this episode of Top Gear and pretty much sums up what we can expect from Chinese cars and motorcycles.

It's funny, I was asking on Facebook what people thought of the Tundra I'm looking at, and one of the comments was "90% of the money goes back to Japan."
The Tundra was one of the Top Ten vehicles when it came to parts and assemblies sourced from the US. Interestingly the Chevy 1500 the guy was preaching was not.
