Should He Get a Scholarship?

Well, valid points all, but I believe a person should stand or fall on his own merits regardless. If he worked as hard or harder than poor students that got scholarships, well, then I think he should get it. He may decide to do the right thing and GIVE the scholarship back becase of his rich P-Daddy, but if he earned it, he deserves it regardless. THAT'S what I meant about "socialist".

I don't disagree. If he is going through his Horatio Alger phase and is heading west with the clothes on his back to make his own way in the world and be his own man....that's great. If he's heading west to be his own man.... in the $300k Maybach daddy bought him,.... well, that isn't as inspiring a mental image.

Like some said at the beginning of the thread, the honor is in being asked. Sr. and Jr. should be proud of what the kid accomplished. And now that he's been asked Sr. should tell UCLA to give it to a kid who's dad hasn't been as fortunate. I would think that a dad would be proud to be able to pay for his son's education. That's what a man does. Works hard and provides for his family.
