    George was able to forge ahead because his motorcycles run single sided swingarms so it wasn't an issue.

    That string alignment takes way too long. Get on the ground behind your rear wheel and sight down the chain. Any curve in it and you know you need to align your chain adjusters.

    on a kinda random note, what would you guys thinking about running a rear tire that was made in 2001, but is in good condition?

    I'd run it... Right off of a cliff. I'm probably overly paranoid about my tires, but there's no way in hell I'd run a 11 year old tire on a motorcycle.
