    Vfr800 FI Issue

I took the viffer for a quick ride to warm up the chain for clean/lube and the FI light came on, killed throttle response, then cut back on and the FI light turned back off. This happened a couple times in about a mile. A couple happened when I would hit a bump, once when there was no bump, and one of the bump ones killed the engine and I had to restart it.

Obviously I don't wanna take her on a ride with this issue, any suggestions on where or what to look at? Is the fuel pump going bad? Seems like it might be a loose wire but I don't know where to look.

loose kickstand or maybe a loose connection at your start relay?

Kickstand would kill the engine. The fact you are going into limp home mode tells me it is probably an atmospheric sensor - IAT, MAP, etc. Hard mechanical sensors will usually kill the engine. With it happening over bumps makes it almost certainly a loose connection

I just looked up the trouble code chart and the TPS (throttle position sensor) is about the only thing that engages limp home

I just jumped the service connector and it has no codes. The FI light just stays on.

Think I just found the problem. Loose battery connections. Doh!

Edit: in further thought, the electrical power never went off. So not sure.

It could still be the battery connection, I had the exact same issue when I departed moco one time.

Tighten everything up and take her around the block, if the FI light is still on it may have messed something up when the battery connection kept getting disconnected/connected.

That's my only advice hope everything works out.

Test rode the same route and no issues. So hopefully that was it.

Very good chance that was it. It fits the symptoms and loose battery connections can definitely cause weird ECU issues

Wow. Didn't your Duc have some similar electrical issues?

VFR's are famous for electrical problems. Price you pay for bulletproof engine and single sided swing arm.

2005+ are normally much more reliable electrically

The Duc was a short in the turn signal switch which was fixed. This appears to have been just a loose battery connection.

IF the issue returns, check all the ground connections, including the ground buss. I believe it will look just like this on your gen6:
