    Chain Rivet

I'm kinda stuck as to how to rivet a chain. I know you need to press it with the tool but I can't seem to turn the tool hard enough. It's kinda hard to explain. The tool clicky sits on the chain in the air and when I turn it it turns too because it isn't attached to anything. I had a friend try to hold it but it still didn't work. Any ideas?

    Re: Chain Rivet

I had the same kind of trouble with a new Regina chain (see email from Regina rep below). If all else fails, use the clip link to get the bike to a shop that can rivet it for ya.

Hi John, sorry to hear you had difficulties installing our connectors.

To help out and answer your questions:

    1) On the rivet tool, yes, we do make our own tool set for assembly and
riveting. It is expensive so usually only dealers end up buying it. I
can also recommend the "Jumbo Breaker and Riveter" that Motion Pro sells along with their 4 sided taking attachment. It does a good job on the
    mushrooming.

    2) The clip link plate is a press fit and it does take significant
force to seat it over the interference of the pin. This interference is what
gives the link it's resistance to long term fatigue loading and failure. I
estimate it would take a couple hundred pounds force to push on the
plate. As long as you have the clip engaged with the grooves in the pins you are OK. Make sure the clip link isn't tighter than other parts of the
    chain, causing a kink.

Our web site has a good installation section and downloadable video
clips of the same. They are located at:

This should cover other questions you might have. Regards.
