    VFR800 Won't Start

Everything was fine when I parked it last night. I pulled it out to head for wings this evening and I got nothing. The fuel pump primes, plenty of juice, no blown fuses that I've seen. When I push the start button I get 1 click from the button being pushed, the headlight shuts off (I believe this is normal), and nothing else.

At this point I have no idea what the problem could be. I figured I'd ask here since this is home before I take it to a VFR forum.

Here is a vid of it.

No, battery is fine. The click is not from the starter.

Start with connectors. Battery terminals and the like. I've seen it where there are loose and provide enough power to run the lights and pump, but not enough to start the bike.

Next thought is a flat/ dead spot on the starter motor. If you can turn the motor a few degrees it may pick back up.

Can you bump start the bike?

Will check the starter relay. Battery terminals are tight. I'll look into turning the starter. And I can't try to bump start it on my own.

Check for a voltage drop across the solenoid. Attach your meter leads to the input and output terminals and see if the reading drops to 0 with the starter button pressed. I prefer an analog meter for this type of test. Often, the contacts in the solenoid will pit and burn over time, causing too little voltage to go to the starter.

Anything over a volt or so with the starter button would indicate a probable faulty solenoid.

I would also check the main wiring harness connectors. (Can't recall if you said yours had had the wiring harness recall done.) They are notorious for having problems (loose connections that short).

I prefer to just hit both terminals with a screwdriver and see if it cranks.

Did you flip the red switch on the right handle bar? That's what would happen to my 900rr when i didn't switch it to "On"

Charger registers it fine, jump start pack had no different result, and it read ok on my multimeter.

Another option is the neutral safety switch - have you tried sitting on the bike, putting the KS up and holding the clutch in?

Same result kickstand or centerstand up or down, in gear or out of gear.

    Re: VFR800 Won't Start

In the absence of a volt meter to verify operation of the starter relay, then as suggested earlier, you need to get someone to help you attempt a bump start if you are unable to yourself.
