Just a thought until you get a new lock set. You can remove the wires from the ignition and go with a push button start, hidden if you like. I did this on my CBR1000RR. I got a switch from Radio Shack.

It isn't a hard repair but you'll need a safety torx bit, T40 maybe, to get the bolts removed from the bottom. The suckiest part will be different keys for the tank/seat and ignition unless you get them re-keyed. When I removed mine, I used red loctite and regular hex head bolts when putting it back together. If they're going so far as using a wrench to remove the ignition, they can have it.

I have an ignition switch with (1) key $40. I can get you a switch with 2 keys and the matching gas cap for $100, but I would need to take it off of my race bike.

Ouch. The SV has a torx head with a little nub in the middle.

These are torx tamper proof, I just drill off the heads.

There is usually a resistor involved in the key/switch elimination.

Good luck with your fix Nolan. I bought some SV650 forks off Beuller and he knows his SV shit well! I'm sure he can help you fix what you need or get the parts and knows what he is talking about

So since the steering is locked can I still remove the old ignition or try finishing the hack job to get it to unlock?

    Re: Help fix ignition.

If you get the Torx tamper proof driver you should br able to get the switch w/lock off. If you plan to drill the bolts you will need to remove the top triple clamp and you should be able to work it off by dropping the forks down out of the triple to give you some wiggle room.

Don't disconnect anything yet, if you have the switch off, when you pick up the new switch I can show you how to do the rest very easily.

It's ready to be taken off once I get to the connector. I'm done for the day on it. Have to get ready for work and all that.
Thanks again Bueller. I'll see you in the am....
