Yep if CTL has installed fiber to your neighborhood and offer 12mb and higher speeds, GET IT. I pay for 20mb, and I see 18mb speeds consistantly, even during peak hours to servers out of state. It's ridiculous how fast I can download huge files from multiple sources, gaming, streaming, etc. all at once.

This is getting a bit off topic, but to chime in on the CenturyLink thing... I have been using it for 2.5 years now and have had 1 outage that was on their end during that time. That's phenomenal.

I work from home and my job requires me to be online 9+ hours a day with 100% availability over VoIP or IM, and while the upload speeds are slow, the DSL service has been rock solid. When I am off the clock, I am typically at my laptop, watching netflix, doing something ONLINE probably another 5 hours a day, and we have had great uptime. At $57 a month, the service is really noting to complain about. Since my company reimburses me, there is REALLY nothing to complain about.

That said, the upload speeds ARE slow, and if I have anything going upstream, it tends to bottleneck the downstream too. So, if you torrent, it's pretty much necessary to cap the total upstream at around 100kbps or less, otherwise downstream will suffer.

Call them and tell them that you're considering switching, but that you'd like to see if they'll renew their promo.

I've been on a promo for more than two years now. I'll have to threaten to leave to get another one. Their Retention dept has the goods.

I think when I left we were paying ~$115/month for great internet and all channels except HBO and such

I just wish comcast had a major competator out here

Yep, back in MI I paid $70-$80 a month for whatever the fastest Internet they had at the time, HD, plus a DVR, and HBO. I come out here and was able to get that price for two years then they called my bluff and I followed through and ditched cable. (They also would lock me into a price in MI for a year non of this 6month crap) I do have 20MB High speed internet here...funny where we lived in MI they always upped you to the fastest there was no 1MB or 10mb service...LOL

HD antenna service not bad. I use torrents for TV shows, we do have Amazon Prime now so watching some stuff through that by way of the PS3.

I buy lots of movies (yes I download them too to try :-P, to much crap to justify buying them all). Even with all this...we don't watch much TV, Two and Half Men while in bed, news and that is it typically.

I wish Verizon had FIOS here, I always check every few years.

Yep, but they always put up a huge fight. They actually told me forget it...but they could see that I had been paying anywhere from $60-$80 a month for a lot of years. I used to use a source I had int he retention department out here to keep my deals.

In time they will tel you to WALK...and now with the Comcast drop off location being one in Springs. I'm not going down there for shit. They kept their high prices but closed down various offices...much nicer when the location in Monument was there.

Saw this looking around last night...

Looks like Cable and Dish companies are being slowly worked around.

I conducted a test last night with a basic set of rabbit ear from Radio Shack and since I still have comcast cable for TV and internet I ran a comparison of available channels.

There may also be some federal guidelines they must follow, that they must provide public tv channels through their cable... although I have no official knowledge of this.

Don't remember the details, but it was when the government forced us to switch to DTV.

Re: So you're done paying for a cable box...

I contracted for Comcast for 3 years. We were hired to go disconnect people or talk them into paying their bill. I learned a lot about the company.

    1. They don't give a flying shite about your loyalty, how long you've been with them, the fact that you've paid 10 years worth of bills on time, ect

    2. All they want is your money and they will try every route to screw you into giving up any money that you have.

    3. They lie, lie, and lie about everything.

    -----
but there is some good news

You can get some really really cheap internet/cable/phone deals with them if you can work the system a little.
-If you've had service with Comcast for a while and aren't using any of the deals then you're getting screwed. Find out how much your paying compared to the deals they have out and compared to the dish companies. Call them up and politely discuss the options you have with lowering your bill. ****Remember they have a system that they put notes in about your call so KEEP CALM!!! Sometimes you will get lucky and the person will just hook you up with a good deal right away Sometimes they say there is nothing they can do. Ask them if you could downgrade your service and what lower plans they have. If you don't get what you want - tell them nicely that you appreciate their help and that you need some time to think things over before you change your services. Hang up. If you get mad and start freaking out they will note this in the system. Call back 10 minutes later and you will talk to another person. Explain to them that you were previously discussing a way to lower your payments and were looking at options. If that person just gives you the deal then If not then start over again.

Since I was a contractor I recieved no deals or special priveledges from Comcast. Every 6 months I would do this same thing and go back to the $30 cable/internet deal Only one time did I downgrade to basic cable and internet for a month and then went back to the $30 deal after a week.

Hopefully this helps some people out.

If you are looking for a show on-line this search site is really good.

Clicker catalogs all broadcast programming online, along with TV-quality Web originals, from these silos and delivers them in one seamless, organized experience so you can easily discover what's available to watch (and what isn't) online, where to watch it.

Okay, I have no qualms about showing my bill. What can I do to get a better price? Right now I pay 165-170 per month.

Quit renting PPV movies for 6 bucks when you can get them from redbox for 1...

What's your additional services? Sports for 9/month, Outlet service for 9/month?

Also, I have the same bundle and my Service Discount is 51/month.
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...

Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.
