    Busa suspension

Can anyone give some suspension info for a 180lb. rider on a stock setting 2002 Hayabusa? I know you have some folks around that specialize in suspension, but I would like to keep the stock suspension on without diving to in depth. The bike is not local, so that is another reason I cannot bring it to a local shop to get it set up.

    The issue:

Pretty soft suspension for a "good" pace. When taking corners, especially sweepers, the bike wobbles under acceleration and excessive speed when leaned over. It becomes unstable. I am looking for settings that would reduce the wobble and firm it up a bit without throwing the bike off even more when pushed.

I am new at setting suspensions but would like to give it a try once I get to the bike in about a month. Wondering if their are any Busa owners that ran into the same problem and have had it cured by the suspension being changed.

    Thanks.

    Re: Busa suspension

I would like to solve this issue without spending semi-large amounts of money. The suspension is fine for touring and moderate paces, but when ramped up, thats when it wobbles. What do you think?

If you aren't going to pay a pro i.e. STM than you are going to have to educate yourself as much as possible.

From there it's just trial and error. When you pay someone to do it you arent really paying for the work cause the actual work isnt that hard, you are paying for their years of trial and error on someone else's bike.
Either way, you really can't screw it up. Write down where you started and start making adjustments. Worse case you go back to where you started.
    Good luck.

    Re: Busa suspension

I appreciate it and will definetely take notes from where we start. Just wondering if anyone here has run into the same issue and has notes on where there suspension is set from stock as a place to start from for this particular bike. If not, I'll scour the interent. Thank you for the info, I believe they (sport rider) have recommended settings from during their track tests if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully for a Busa

The stock valve settings have worked well for me, I just put more pre load on the fork springs. For a 180 pound rider he shouldn't need to do much.

Does he have good tires and proper tire pressure in them?

Yep there's a stabilizer. Tires and pressures are good and set. Well taken care of and looked after. We will do some research. Thanks guys

    Re: Busa suspension

Front springs are too soft on the Busa for spirited riding. Stock ride height is low enough that you can drag fairings about the same time you drag the pegs.

The settings on the Sportrider page will get you better than you are, but without a spring swap and revalve the front end will never be good enough for a true spirited pace.

I've got Busa forks on my TLR and had a set on my old Bandit 12.

TLR weighs about 100# less wet than the Busa, and we still went up to 1.0 from the stockers (think they were .85). Granted I am a big boy but they weren't even close.

I'll go out on a limb here... When was the last time the suspension had fresh fluid in it?

    Might want to start there.
