I figured that this fight would would happen down the road anyway, so I'm a bit upset that it trumps Dan Henderson's shot at JBJ. As a fan of the fight game, I'm glad to see that it's going down, but it's bittersweet since Chael and Jon are both young men in comparison to Hendo.
Obviously business is business and $$ talks, and Zuffa is going to make blackzillions on this fight (hehe) [and it may even bring new fans to the sport, considering the T.U.F format], but as a fan of MMA I don't think Sonnen should have supplanted Hendo so easily; 5 wins in his last 8 fights (coming off a loss), vs. Henderson's 7 wins out of 8 (with 4 in a row).
If anything, it would have made more sense to me to have Hendo and Chael square-off first, as a title eliminator. Of course a loss by Sonnen in that hypothetical fight would have put a huge dent in a high profile fight against Jones in the nearfuture, requiring him to fight back up through the LHW ranks to some degree.
Oh well. If it's done it's done and I can only hope now that neither fighter gets injured in training.
Anybody feeling like wagering anything on this little mixup?
