    Brake Pads

Im getting ready to put steel braided lines on the RC51 and thought I should upgrade the brake pads at the same time.
Any suggestions on the type of brake pad I put on or is it like oils we all have a different opioion(sp) of which brand works best.

    Thanks in advance!

These are the factory HRC pads, supposed to be the absolute best for the RC's. A little pricey though.

I have had pretty good luck with Carbone Lorraine Superbike pads on my 999, but you are right, everyone has a preference.

The price on the HRC pads is stupid expensive I use EBC HH pads on my 954 and they work great .

Whatever pad you decide on make sure you bead blast the rotors and wipe them down with de-natured alcohol before installing new pads. You will destroy a new set of pads if you switch brands or compound and don't do what I say.

Oh and don't use any other alcohol. Acetone will work also.

I just put a new rotor and new EBC pads on the Hawk. I have used this combo for the past 13 months. I am only providing input because I have done a little over 40K on my bike in 13 months and I really like the EBC pads for street and canyon. I ride heavy highway 2/3 of the time and timid canyon the rest. The only problem I have had is that the EBC wore out after about 6k miles. But I guess that is good for "in traffic" riding.

BTW: I can take that RC51 off your hands if you think the breaks are bad

Bead blast? Hmmmm...PM more details on this if you would Lurch...and Ray said something about a break in on them so they don't glaze or something like that. I just got a set of EBC HH (I think) pads but haven't put them on yet.
I wanted to go with the Performance Friction pads but couldn't readily find them for my bike. I can get you the name of a guy who will take care of you on these (or just about anything I think) if you want Jason

    Re: Brake Pads

Bead blasting is basically sand blasting the rotors. This will clean off all the previous brake pads residue. If you don't bead blast you risk the chance of pulling off the old residue and depositing it on the new pads. Which in turn will glaze the pads. The same holds true if you don't use acetone or de-natured alcohol to clean after bead blasting.

Ray-Ray is referring to pad break in I'm assuming. Which is different for ever company. Talk to the person you bought the pads from or look on the net at their website for break-in procedures.

Yeah, I know all about bead blasting, even have a bead blast cabinet (small, but more than big enough to do rotors with). You just hit them with a quick even blast from each side?
