    07 RSV1000R help please

Hey I'm working on my buddy's RSV1000R. Cranks over fine, has spark, fuel, can't check compression at the moment but sounds normal/good. Just put in new plugs (hard as hell to find btw).

    Soooo ideas?

I can't find the service manual for it, so I'm not sure what sensors should read what. The injectors are both getting good signal, the airbox sensors seem to be working appropriately.

Any help or a link to a manual would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Wrider

I assume it is giving you the check symbol in the lower third of the instrument display? I will have to wait until I get home to give you the exact sequence of button presses to get into the diagnostic but once you are there it will give you both the code and a description of what failed. You still need the manual to get specifics

Are all the coils/connectors in properly?

I have a detachable "tip-over" sensor on mine, that has stumped me up before. It attaches under the seat, to the battery-secure plate.

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

    Here is the procedure:

Turn the key on and hold the function button (left switch cluster, on front below the passing switch) until the menu displays. Tap the function button until Diagnosis is displayed. Hold the button until it asks for a code. This is where it could get tricky, while the 09 Tuono and 07 RSV are essentially identical mechanically I cant guarantee the code is the same. The code I have is 13432. To enter it you will see the first field shows 0. Tap the button once, when it displays 1 hold the button until the next field shows a 0. tap 3 times to display a 3, hold until the next field is 0, etc. Once you have entered the last number a new menu will display. Tap until ECU Diagnosis is highlighted and then hold the button until codes are displayed. If the text description is not enough I can look up the codes but as I mentioned earlier I have a 09 Tuono manual. Not likely to be different but it is possible

No there isn't unfortunately, that's why I'm trying to figure out what's up.

    Already checked that unfortunately.

Seems I may need him to bring it down to where I can get access to my tools and work on it using all of my diagnostic equipment.

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

    Fuel pressure adequate?

Does it have a power commander? Have you tried removing the power commander from the system?

How about battery voltage. Sometimes bikes will crank, but not fire with low battery power. A low battery in the RSV is especially damming because it stands to damage the sprag clutch, so be careful with continued cranking.

I have a manual, but in print only. You're welcome to borrow it.

Tip over switch under the seat is a common source of failure on these

Also check the brown connector for the regulator/rectifier. Another common failure point

    Good luck

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

Not sure on fuel pressure. The only tools I had access to up there were the tools in the bikes tool kit.

Battery power is good. Did have a multimeter with me, so checked that and it's good.

    No power commander.

If I can't find an electronic one I'll send him over to grab it from you, and I'll go through it. I do appreciate the offer!

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

Pretty sure I've figured out what's wrong... The cam sensor isn't getting power. Any ideas why? I've tried it with the key on, no cranking, and while cranking.

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

    From the manual:

12V power supply between pins 3c and 3a. Output square wave ... (to be measured pins 3b and 3a) which tells me 3c is the 12v supply. The supply is common with both injectors and the coils and is supplied by the injection relay

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

What is crazy is in the manual it says 3a, 3b, and 3c but in the diagram it is 1,2,and 3. 3 is the hot wire, color orange/green

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

I appreciate it. I did check 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and 1 to 3. None of them had any more than ambient voltage. It's frustrating that it's just not getting voltage. If it was the sensor itself, that'd be a lot easier to fix.

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

I just had a thought, try measuring pin 3 directly to ground. Pin 1 is not really a ground, it routes directly to the ECU along with 2, the signal line. I am wondering if something in the ECU failed

Cool I appreciate it. I have the service manual in pdf, but the wiring diagram is horrible on it.

If you haven't checked fuel pressure, does the fuel pump make noise when you turn the key and on/off switch on?

    Re: 07 RSV1000R help please

was it running before the plug change? are you sure you are getting fuel to the carb/ throttle body? and then the cylinder? is there an air leak in the intake system? maybe this has been covered....

    It was running fine.
    Parked for about 3 weeks.
    Wasn't running.
    Did plug change.
    Is getting fuel.
    No air leaks.
    Fuel pump works.

Fuel is good. Modern fuel goes bad relatively quickly, but not that fast.
