    Stopping a leak...

Well I am finally back up and running after my accident! I received my parts today! So I put them on and took it for a nice little ride to get it back into its grove, and I put my foot down at a light and almost slipped off my bike...

I look down at my left shoe and theres oil on it, so after I get it home I see where the oil is coming from... Is there a way to "plug up" a leak without having to replace yet another part? Advice... please...

Sure, but you will need to take off whatever's leaking. Try a new gasket, only use some permatex sealant on it.

Well the problem is the part that is leaking, doesn't have a gasket spot, its leaking from the case itself.. I will get a picture of it online shortly, but for the time being, here is a diagram of where the leak is...

Some of the bolts that hold on case covers actually go into the engine and have oil behind them. You may have put the wrong bolt back in that hole. Look at all the bolts and see if any have a small round gasket on them. If not you can put Yamabond on the inner lip of the bolt and replace it.

    Dang, dude!!!

That looks pretty major to me. Without knowing Suzuki that well I would have to see it in person and probably without the cover. However, maybe JB weld will be a quick cure. Make a big blob and Dremel it down and use some Permatex to seal the cover mating surface.

    Re: Stopping a leak...

Well I hope you are sitting down..... That is the lower case and I believe the brass plug Suzuki puts in to machine an oil galley somewhere inside the engine.

I would lean the bike over on the right handle bar(as far as possible, tie down from the ceiling may help) clean it up with a dremel but don't take to much material off and JB weld the thing. If that doesn't work you may be able to get it welded but I'm not to sure of that idea with the brass plug in there.

It doesn't have pressure behind it from the pump but does have pressure from heat. That plug sits at about the oil level.

A lower engine case won't be cheap.

    Re: Stopping a leak...

    I concur with Lurch.

Lean the bike to the right or drain the oil or both. Use a Q-Tip and some alcohol (not the drinking kind) and get ALL of the oil off of where it is leaking. Get this as clean and dry as possible (very important). Go to the Auto Parts store and get some JB weld or better yet some JB Quick. The weld takes about a day to cure but the quick cures in about 15 minutes. AFTER everything is clean and dry blob on lots of the JB weld and let it set. DO NOT let oil contact it or try to ride it until it is fully set up. Don't worry too much about what it looks like as you can dress it up later. I have fixed some really bad problems with JB weld and it has always seemed to work. You might as well give it a try before you have to go buy a engine case or another engine.

    Best of Luck.

    Re: Stopping a leak...

I would go with the JB weld first. Can't make it any worse then it is. If that doesn't work you can take all winter to look for a blown up motor. The lower case usually doesn't get hurt when a motor lets loose. Also replaceing the lower case is a piece of cake. Well more like a quarter of a cake but still pretty easy.
