One thing to remember, against a stock Hayabusa the S1000RR is only slightly faster. With a few bolt-on mods the Hayabusa can easily put itself on par with the BMW power wise, and a stock Busa already has loads more torque. You may still have an edge with the BMW's traction control and the clutch-less quick shift, but after that it's anyone's game.

I truthfully don't like the idea of you and my brother racing each other simply based on the speeds you guys can attain. That said, I don't think I could dissuade either of you so I'm just stirring the pot instead. If you decide to do so it will be interesting to see, no doubt about that.

I'm 9/10ths sure that my brother will be joining us on the ride, but there's always a chance that something could come up at the last minute.

You will be fine. Since not everyone has the awesomeness that is an FJR with it's 6.5 gallon tank (and 36MPG!) we'll be making fuel stops often. The first time I did this ride it was on my R1 and I only nearly ran out of fuel in the middle of no where like twice.

zx12r its a 4.5-4.8 gal tank, just sucks fuel if you push it.

I am 90% on this trip if there is still room. I can do 140-150 a tank on my R6 and 500 miles a day hasn't been a problem before.

Mileage information info just for shits and giggles. Correct me if I off.

1st day Denver to Gallup is 535 miles-10 hours of riding (speed limit) not counting breaks, fuel-ups, and lunches (add 2hours at least?)
2nd day Gallup to Grants- 521 miles=11.5 hours.
3rd day Grants to Denver 565-11 hours.

We will probably make up distances with speed, but with breaks for food and fuel, can we say it's going to be 13-14 hour days on road?

I say May is the best time to go unless you like it hot or riding in the dark

For people that aren't familiar with Clovis rides, allow me to translate.

Day 1 - cruise between 90-120mph depending on traffic with a few top speed runs to break up the boredom.

Day 2 - long but fun and still well over the speed limit

Day 3 - I rode the million dollar highway and the black canyon with Clovis in the past. Fast but fun speeds during those stretches of the most amazing roads in CO, but the straight parts in between will be 90-120mph. Even Clovis takes it easy on the ride down into Ouray since a crash there likely results in a 500+++ft drop to think about what you did wrong.

To be honest Clovis doesn't ever seem to go under 90 regardless of how tight and twisty the road is, but he will always wait for you at the next turnoff. Plus he is well organized, gets emergency contact info and things like that in case of worst case scenario so loved ones can be contacted. Bring plenty of Alleve and adrenaline will take care of the rest of the aches and pains.

I officially can't join this run. Work is asking me to take on a 3 month project in Central CA. Having just moved back from SD my boss advised I ask for a lot of perks since if I say no they have nobody else that is available to send. They have already offered to ship one of my bikes out there at no cost to me, so I can ride the coast or Sierras on my 3 day weekends. Yosemite National Park will be under 3 hours away and from what I hear, speeding tickets in National Parks don't carry points.

That was the happiest I have ever been when receiving a ticket for 30 over. The best part was when you heard the ranger say that and asked her to repeat herself just to be sure we were hearing correctly.

Hmmm this is going to be trip 2 for me to the spine. I plan to open the season with a trip in April. I turn forty this year in may. This is how I vision bringing in the 40. Sore knees, wore out dunlops fried kluckys and good times with moto minded crazy people. (Complement to Clovis). I'll go if you'll have me big boy.
