Anyone with a Kawasaki Ninja 300?

Anyone have one of these? With my last court involvement due to the ZX-14, it is in my best interest to get a really slow bike to save gas money so I am deciding on a one of these or a 150 cc scooter. Yes, I said scooter because insurance is like $70 a year on them and they get 100 mpg.

From what I hear about the 250s, they can be fun so I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with one. I am really interested in knowing what your actual mpg is up here and if they are that fun to ride around on a 20 mile drive to work each day. I'd rather have the
Ninja 300, because there is just something fundamentally wrong with a guy on a scooter so convince me.

I commuted 14 miles a day on my 2007 ZX-6R and I had a blast each day on the clover leafs so I am wondering if the 250 will be as fun even though I know they are dog slow compared to my 6R or 14.

The smaller the bike, the more fun in the twisty bits. You know how you went from the 6 to the 14 and were like "Wow, I really gotta work to move this thing around"? Yep, now think about going from the 14 to the 6, and it'll be the same kinda change to the 3.

Not to mention it's fuel injected, has a slipper clutch, and, if you opt for it, ABS.

250's aren't slow in the corners, just in the straights.

The 250's fuel mileage is awesome. I wanna say somewhere in the 50's for highway miles. They are pretty comfy as well as being nimble in heavy traffic. They are easy to throw around. Personally, I have'nt had that much personal experiance with one, But I did ride a 750mi stint in one sitting with one. Had surprisingly good pick-up with me and also could keep up with traffic. They are a blast in the corners (demanding a little bit more work to go fast)- but thats the challenge.

Also, a good rider on a 250 is awesome. Just ask some of the MRA guys. Pretty quick on those bikes....probably faster than some people in other classes for sure.

Not probably, definitely. Some of the 250 racers would absolutely demolish a lot of people on a litrebike

OP, supermotos are fun and cheap too. actually, u might even be able to get away with soemthing like a z1000 or an FZ6. It's amazing that insurance companies have absolutely no clue that those bikes are incredibly fast

Yes it is, I loved it when I was riding Nikki's around. It don't get out much since we lowered it an inch!!!! But it was awesome I think I shaved a whole 45 min off time when doing a "Certain Loop" (undisclosed) the fist time I took it up them hills and just riding around town a few times. Then got back on mine and kept that time shaved off. It really can help riding technique and makes you push just a little harder.

I was thinking about the 300 but not yet. Still trying to help Nikki to get back in the saddle when weather permits (she is cold blooded)

Here is a video from a track day a couple years ago. It is shot from a stock motor Ninja 250 vs. others.

I love riding them in the canyons, really fun. We used to ride two up all over town and the close in canyons and had a great time.

I know Peanut has one. I absolutely love riding the Ninja 250. I actually enjoy it more that any other bike that I have ridden (although my dirty would be right up there). They don't have a lot of power in the straights, however they do just fine in the turns. I can't speak a lot to riding them on the street though, I have only ridden on the track.

The 250 was really fun in the canyons and at HPR. I'd imagine the 300 would be that much better.

Re: Anyone with a Kawasaki Ninja 300?

My only concern would be getting on the highway and having the power to get out of trouble. I am not sure if it can do 75 uphill, which would be an issue in CO. I have never ridden a 250 on the highway but I did use a 250 for my class. The instructor suggested having at least a 500 for highway use.

    Just my 2 cents.

Re: Anyone with a Kawasaki Ninja 300?

I definitely wouldn't be riding it on the highway. It's sole purpose would be for going to work and picking up items I can fit in a backpack.

I think the scooter, Honda PCX 150, would be a little too powerless though and at the rate I ride bikes, I don't think the scooter would sell with 10,000 miles per year I own it. I would be better off with the 300 and selling it to someone who wants to rebuild and use it for the track.

Thanks for the input. As far as keeping the 14, that was gone a year ago. Getting a FZR would defeat the of me selling it because I don't need anything with any power.

As far as a supermoto, that would actually be pretty cool, but is it more comfortable to ride 14 miles to/from work than a Ninja 300?

It's only 14 miles. Unless it's 30+, you're not gonna feel much of a difference on a sumo seat. With the problem you have with the law though, I'd stick with the Ninjette.

The 250 is capable of keeping up with traffic on the highway....

The more you ride it the more you will be able to rip.... Like mentioned above, I rode one from OKC to Winterpark straight through-on the highway- and was VERY impressed with it. It did well...very well.

My Dads ex-wife started on a 250. She road all over the country (literally) on that 250...camping gear and all. They are great bikes. Don't get talked out of owning one.

Thanks for the feedback. Tomorrow I will find out if I am getting one. I want to make at least one trip up to Aspen via the Pass this year, would like to join in on the Firecracker 500, and I need to make an out of state road trip so I am not sure how the 300 will do on those kind of distances and elevations.

A Ninja 250 has made the FC500 a few times. It just means no hanging out @ th fuel stops as we are waiting for them to show usually. But is not long maybe 5/15 minutes.
    Totally doable.

Having put 60K on a Ninja 250, and then test riding the 300, here is my impression:

    http://thedandooligan.com/2012/09/26...tain-kawasaki/

You'd be stupid NOT to buy the 300. A heck of a lot of fun, and just the right amount of power!
