I tried a search and didn't find anything so here's the question...
I need a new rear tire soon I have a 180/55-17 BT014 rear on my 636.
Any benefits or negatives to putting a 190/50-17 size tire on?
Thanks,
Chad

On a 600 a 190 is a big negative.
1. Larger/heavier tire means less HP put to the ground.
2. If it has a 5.5" rim you will actually have less cornering ability.

I don't know about the HP, but I do know that the profile of the 190 tire changes from what the manufacturer intended it to be when it is on a 5.5" rim. I personally wouldn't spend the extra money on a wider tire, especially if there is no added benefit.

more rotating mass from a larger tire means that the bike wont put out as much power to the ground.

O.K.
Thanks. Sticking w/ the 180.
Just as an FYI, some people will put 180's on their (normally) 190 shod bikes, as a cornering improvement effort.
IMO, for you to go in the opposite direction and go bigger 180 --> 190, is a bad idea. Unless of course you just like the look.

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.
