    tires

I have a 1994 Yamaha Seca II that I have been riding for about two months and after about 4500 miles I need a new back tire, possibley a front too. About 80% of the 4000 were spent in the canyons and the previous 500 were done by the previous owner. This is my first bike so tire selection is a mystery. My bike is pretty low powered, about 55 Hp and maybe 40ft. lbs. of torque. What would you guys recommend if mileage isn't too much of a concern. I want to be confident with my grip, I never could with this set of Barracudas.

dunlop 220's. unless you're really pushing HARD in the canyons it's all you'll ever need. and they'll give you kick ass milage (or at least should on that bike).

You sound like a man who needs a killer deal on a set of Pilot Powers.

good point. since they're a dual compound tire they should last him really well too. i still need to try them out as well.

Actually Jeff, Pilot Powers are not a 2 compound tire. The Pilot Race are, however.

And I think Ralph was mostly kidding. He's selling Powers, so the post was a little tongue in cheek.

Those tires are a bit of overkill for a Seca II, I think.

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.

i know of people who are overkill if they are running chin shins on there zx10, r1, gix 1000, etc too though.

i could swear i'd read someplace that they were dual compound?? look again and you are right... they're not. my bad.

i used to have a Seca II, it was my first bike as well!

as for tires, if i remember correctly the rear on that is a 130. if thats the case its gonna be hard to find a set of pilot powers or likewise tires. when i had my seca II i was running Avons on it and i remember them lasting me a long time and never really noticed any grip issues.

the 55HP is pushing it. stock they were at 49hp at sea level. you prolly got about 40hp, but still a fun bike.
