Window well covers

Does anyone have any experience with window well covers? Custom vs premade? Recommendations?
My primary intent is burglary protection.

I did a cool designed one but in no way was it burglar proof. I took the nice scenery prints you buy at home depot and lowes of a beach scene dumped a bunch of masonry white sand and a lot of sea shells. to cover it i bought a big plastic window cover.

I found something in the neighborhood. They had it secured with a chain. I know they are intended to prevent falls and need to be able to removed in case of fire... .
