Clearly your only choice is to buy me the rc8r. That way you will have the joy of the purchase without all that nagging bike maintenance.

I like the bike but I would rather put the money into savings, pay down debt or invest.

Not a bad plan, however if he is going to upgrade, he might as well upgrade to the best of his options.

That is very responsible and adult-like. It is also very un-manly. That's why I went out and bought a brand new bike. And now my ballzs are like carbon fiber reinforced titanium.

And I do appreciate someone with fiscal responsibility. My car has been paid off for a couple of years and I have no student loan or credit card debt. The only expense that I have credit-wise is my mortgage. I can afford the payments at $15k ($280 a month), but I really don't want to pay that much every month, so I'd be looking at selling my ZX10R and using the proceeds as my down payment and bringing my monthly payments down to $180ish.

Insurance on the RC8R will cost me $6 less a year than my ZX10R, so the difference is negligible. The RSV4, OTOH, will go up about $10 a month.

Jeff, I'm looking at the RC8R and the base RSV4. The Factory is VERY nice, but it has a lot of stuff I don't really need and it tacks on another $5k.

This is the RC8R I'm looking at:

You are the man! Buy them both!

    Now it comes down to

    White/orange or black/orange rc8?

    I vote for white/orange.

Zach just go buy the thing! You know no one on here can talk you out of it. Don't bullshit your self, you posted up on here just to help yourself over the last little hump to pulling the trigger. So when you get it I want to ride it at least around the block.

    My vote: Black/Orange

Oh and now you get to get a shiny new helmet!

    Love you brotha!!!

    Now get after it!

I would try to dissuade you, but I want both of those bikes so badly that my teeth are aching. Both bikes are rarely seen on the street, so +1 on the uniqueness factor.

If I were to make an immediate choice, I'd pick the RC8R, but I'm a sucker for a v-twin. After seeing and hearing Hotcarcass's RC8R, I'm fixing to get one myself eventually. However, the RSV4 Factory is pretty much unstoppable in WSBK right now, so I have to give it mad props as well. Looks like you have a tough choice ahead of you. Good luck with either purchase. I'll justuntil I have one of my own.

If it makes a difference I read somewhere that aprilia has leftover 2009 factories for 13k.

Get a warranty with that RC8R. That's definitely the bike I would choose.

Go to the KTM forums - RC8 section and read about 5 pages of the most replied to threads

Don't walk out of there without a warranty. The LC8 engine can be finicky

The bike I'm looking at will come with the full factory warranty, so no worries there.

What's wrong with Yamaha btw? I know those 26,000 mile valve service intervuls aren't for everyone...

Every Yamaha I've had has been bullet proof. My FJR has 36000 miles on it and feels brand new. It's very common to see Yamahas with over 100k miles and on occasion 200k miles.

Sport bikes usually just don't live that long but not due to mechanical reasons

I'm really leaving towards the KTM and I might have found a smoking deal on one. Going to see it in the morning. I'd really prefer the black and orange, but if I can get the deal I'm looking for, I'll take whichever color they have!

I like the Duc, but the Panigale is a little more than I want to spend. It also doesn't help that you'll spend twice as much on maintenance. I do like your idea on the helmet, though!

Sweet, do it! Sometimes you just have to let the heart win, in the heart vs. brain tug-o-war! You probably won't look back, once you do. Good for the soul, hahaa!
