    Bishop's Castle Run 6/16/2013

    http://www.bishopcastle.org/

It's a day trip (about 6h roundtrip) to Bishop's Castle this Sunday. It's a cool castle that I've wanted to check out. The weather looks good but hot in the front range.

Depart Sunday from MoCo at 8:30am sharp.

We can take this route going: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&g...cGeB8epyAH0tYC

Check out the castle and head down for lunch somewhere along 165 or in the town of Rye (suggestions?)

I'm open for suggestions for a route to come back. We may take come back the same way as HWY165 looks pretty good! » Colorado 165 west from Colorado City — A very scenic road that takes you up to Canon City and past Bishop Castle on the way.

    You wants to come along??

Are you trying to do the quickest route there or go for the twisted on the backroads?
If you take 285 to highway 50 which turns into 69 then 96 is a much more scenic albeit longer route. The castle is pretty cool and they have a gift shop and food available at the castle. If I can talk the wife into it I might be able to join, and I'm good with whatever route you'd like if I do go. Ill get back with you if I can.

Here is a route I would suggest taking, unless you are in a hurry. http://goo.gl/maps/ktqyt

The route will keep it scenic, and fun. Riding into Cripple Creek is a quite a sight, and you shouldn't pass up the High Park Road and maybe a side trip to the Royal Gorge.
I wouldn't pass up stopping for lunch at Sangrita's in Westcliffe after the castle, the food is fantastic, and the Sangre de Cristo mountains are spectacular to behold.

Uhm. Except the Royal Gorge may no longer be there by then... Keep checking the Fremont County Fire. They are also spontaneously closing 50 every now and again.

I like this idea going through Cripple Creek but looks like hwy 50 is closed between east of Canon City and hwy 9. If it reopens, I think this route sounds good.

Initially, I was gonna take Santa Fe and pick up Perry Park Rd to Monument, and then go through Springs towards Canon City and pick up hwy 165.

Now, I'm liking Drano's route as long as the fire is contained by Sunday!

I like Drano's route best, and I'd probably meet you guys in Woodland Park and go down from there. Sangrita's in Westcliffe would be my vote for lunch. It's a very good restaurant, and Westcliffe is a gorgeous town and a quick jaunt away. If anyone is pressed for time you can cut from the castle to I25 really easily, and be back in Denver in just over 2 hours.

I totally forgot about the fire down there. If hwy 50 is closed from hwy 9 to Canon City, you can always avoid that section and take 50 west to Texas Creek and down to Westcliffe (The west half of the loop). Most of the section through Canon City is fairly straight and boring, but there is a nice, twisty section on hwy 96 for a few miles before the turnoff to hwy 165 that is an absolute blast and would hate for you to miss it.

You're welcome. I wish I could join you guys, but Sundays are generally a no-go for me. It's a fun excursion. I'll regret missing it.

    Aaron (maybe)

I predict to be in Woodland Park around 10:15am, leaving promptly at 10:30am.
What do you say if we head to Westcliffe for lunch first, then head to Bishop Castle!?

Thanks Mark, so we could take 50 to 69 then take 69 to Westcliffe for lunch.

Ill meet you guys at the intersection of 24 and 67 in woodland park at about 10:15. IIRC there's a motorcycle shop right there, I'll probably be posted there.

    Yeah, will do that!

Meet us at the Conoco gas station, Aaron. It's on the intersection (deckers&24), maybe like a 100 feet away from the intersection on deckers road. We'll be there at 10am and I want to leave at 10:15!

Unfortunately something came up and I don't think I'll be able to make it. If so I'll let you know, but for the time being count me out. Sorry.

It was nice to meet you Gabriel! Nice riding with you today!
The section after Cripple Creek to Hwy9 is sick!
Bishop's Castle is a must see, IMO and Hwy 165 is a very nice road!
