    PPIR Closing

I just heard a radio report that PPIR is up for sale and will be closing.

Considering the AMA and R2SL both have dates there next season already, I don't forsee that happening anytime soon.

That thing surfaces every year and gets everyone all freaked out. It may be for sale, but I doubt it's closing since it is the only professional track in the state.

Just great. First SCR, then this?

Time to downsize the track bikes and concentrate or something a little more "dirty".

The following are some short notes I took away from the call. I don't want to retype all of it into context, but you should be able to make sense of it.

    -------------------

    PPIR Press Conf notes

    Rob Johnson with brief statement

Been sold to RM Speedway Corp

    Is racing dead in Colorado?
    - This is a loss for motorsports in CO
    - Has nothing to do with IRL pulling out

Track was open for sale last spring, nobody expected it to be closed

Will one be opened in Denver? Unknown

Any idea why they'd buy the track to close it down? No

Motorsports has a tremendous economic impact. Est $53 million on the area. Huge loss to the community.

Has made huge impact to charities

Was distance from Denver a problem? Possibly a contributor to the closing?

ISC had first rights of purchase

Rky Mtn Speedway Corp not related to the dirt track

Bike numbers largest they had ever been

Set attendance records this year for 3 of 4 events ran

Attendance consistent with other events around the country

Track did not have an anchor tentant like Nextel Cup

You'd think with all the Nascar heads here, that'd keep it open

Who's gonna live or have a business there anyways??? it's in the middle of no where, there isn't even a Walmart nearby!!!!!

No kidding. I'm glad that I got to experience that track (and SCR as well), prior to their unfortunate closures. =\

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.
