gone and done it again - oiler

Finally got an automatic oiler on the '98 VFR. I sprung for the electronic model this time.

This is my second Scottoiler so feel free to tell me all about how it's pointless and will spontaneously leave a james bond style oil trail everywhere I go.

I bought a different brand for my 12R, but never got around to mounting it. Not much room back there for the bottle and allow easy access.

Still not 100% sold. Current o and x-ring chains don't need much lube, and oil tends to catch dust and dirt which will accelerate the wear on the rubber.

Alright! I think that meets the "it's pointless" category from someone who hasn't used one.

Now we just need someone to chime in about the impending oily mess....

Sure is a good thing that my goal isn't to get oil inside my chain.

It's to coat the outside in order to fling and attract as much dirt as possible, duh.

So how do you simultaneously "fling" AND "attract" dirt at the same time?

I've done many a mile and the popular spray lubes in a can do plenty well at holding onto dirt.

Getting the feed rate right is a delicate balance between enough to keep the chain clean and lubed, and enough to coat the rear half of the bike with greasy gunk. Most of the customers I have that use oilers err towards the latter...

That balance was hard to maintain on the vacuum operated system I used to have. That's why I went with the e system this time. Even so, I'd much rather take a rag and wipe off a little extra if need be than clean and re lube the chain all the time. I HATE CHAIN MAINTENANCE.

The laws of necessity, of self- preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Never really hated it, but it got old. Now I have a belt drive and don't have to bother.
