Slice in my tire, replace it?

So when I was doing chain maintenance I notice two "slices" in my rear tire. Neither is very deep but still disconcerting. This tire has about 3K easy miles on it, bought it new last September.

Here are some pics with the end of a zip-tie for depth reference, it doesn't even come close to the first notch on the end of the tie. My question is, does this warrant replacement? Do you think it was something on the road or manufacturing defect?

Could be an old tire that sat on the store room for years before you bought it.
Need to find the manufacture date on tire.

I'd ride the shit out of that rubber down to the cord ---- and then replace it.

This tire did multiple laps at 150mph before someone noticed my tag had fallen off at the track. Glenn was nice enough to give it back to me and the tire got moved to street only riding.

You are correct, that tire was built in the third week of 2012

So, it will be replaced, I found another slash while looking at it with the tech at CPS. Someone doesn't like me or my ride to work has some serious debris in it.
