    Moving to Boulder

Hi everyone! I'm moving to Boulder Aug 11 from a flat and straight road area (Alabama).

Is there anything I should know about riding around Boulder?

Also, is there a group on here or Facebook that regularly meets up/rides together/hangs out/shares tips and advice?

In Boulder specifically, walkers, joggers, runners, bikers, boards, reign supreme. You have to really keep an eye out for the pedestrian traffic.

Come spring, watch for the gravel and sand on the roads from winter clearing and maintence, also a lot of new potholes appear.

Watch out for cops. They are jerks there. And if they pull you over wearing berk Birkenstocks, don't laugh at them.

But for real, watch out for people. They are errywhere!

Pedestrians are a nightmare in Boulder. I can't even imagine the culture shock moving from Alabama to Boulder. Get ready to play "how many Subaru's can I count in 1 mile."

It is like Subaru had a free car giveaway and everyone with a Boulder address got one.

All that being said, Boulder is an awesome town RIGHT next to the foothills. Check out Canyon Drive when you get a chance. It will take you to Boulder Falls and Nederland.

Haha, thanks for the warnings on people and Subarus!

So there isn't any kind of Facebook group that posts rides, mechanical talk, or anything?

That's for all of CO though. I was looking for something just for Boulder. For instance, I know there's no way I'm going to ride to Colorado Springs to go on a ride, when I have great roads just west of me :P

cars love to stop in the middle of the road to take pictures
rides often end around Boulder. Check out the canyon carving forum, a lot of times rides start around Golden but make their way up peak to peak and end nearby Boulder

    Re: Moving to Boulder

Boulder is not the nightmare some in this thread are trying to make it out to be. Riding in Boulder is just like riding in any college town. I live just east of Boulder and have to ride through it to hit the mountains.

There are a lot of really nice canyons to ride near Boulder. PM me when you get to town and I'll show you some of them.

It's not really an issue. There will be plenty of rides on P2P you can join.

I'm in the Springs and I can tell you I've ridden P2P about two dozen times since I moved out here in 1997. It's a great road and Lyons andEstes Park are great destinations, but there are a lot of great roads in Colorado. I ride up to Deckers a handful of times a year because it's in my backyard. Saying there's no way you're going to ride down to the Springs, Deckers, or Bishop's Castle because P2P is so close is really limiting yourself. Same would go for Poudre Canyon or Stove Prairie.

    Re: Moving to Boulder

Boulder is an awesome place to ride. The canyons are right at your fingertips. Canyon roads can get a little heavy on the traffic, so just wake up early and enjoy the clean roads. As for riding in town, be very alert and defensive. A bunch of very "entitled" people that aren't paying attention. Get to know the side streets, it's easier, faster and safer. The really nice thing about Boulder is that you can ride pretty much year-round if you're willing to be a little chilly.

People are always willing to ride in/around Boulder. Just post up here and people will show.
