    2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

Replacing the FZ8, the FZ-09 is a naked sportbike that Yamaha describes as having “an emotional performance character and fundamental value.” More simply put the engine and power output will be exciting and handling will be lively while not costing an arm and a leg. That’s a tall order for an all-new motorcycle with a powerplant that is all-new as well. At $7,990, the FZ-09 rings in $900 less than the bike it replaces. The MSRP also makes it the lowest priced in its class, costing $1400 less than the next closest triple, the Triumph Street Triple 675.

I'm interested in this bike as an alternative to the fz1. Just waiting to read the reviews once people start buying it.

I'm going to look at one too. Hopefully, supply will catch up with demand next year.

My Z750S is a semi-naked, I have the 1/4 fairing for the top, I have no problems with the wind on my legs, etc. I think windscreen has more of an affect than anything else.

i have a completely naked FZ1. wind is a nonfactor to me until triple digits. never slabbed it more than an hour though and have good ear protection

I'd agree with that. I took my windscreen off because it gave me bobblehead like a mofo at highway speeds. It affected my top speed by about 5 mph. If I had full aerodynamic fairings I honestly believe the top speed would increase about 10-15 mph.

This bike seems like it will be, rightfully so, extremely popular. The price can't be beat, it looks great, and makes competitive power numbers. I've never heard a complaint about triples, everyone whose ridden one loves it. I thoroughly enjoyed test riding the Daytona 675R, and my Dad's 1200 Tiger Explorer feels like a dirt bike with the soul of a super sport. I absolutely love the performance and sound of the triples, and unlike the twins they are still competitive in top end power.

I almost forgot, 414lbs wet beats most super sports.

I think I may test this and a 675R next year, possibly a Speed Triple. I'm really going to focus on my current bike as a commuter and want something that is a little more fun to play with.

    Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

The 675R is a great bike, it's got top shelf components and is the king of the middleweight super sports right now. For me it was a bit small and just wasn't comfortable for my riding position. Plus I need more power haha.

I'd struggle to assume the FZ9 would be the bike to have getting to the track or canyons, but then would get walked away from by a 675R.

I'm not sure I follow your meaning on that last part

    Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

The FZ9 is probably a lot more comfortable for the ride getting to the fun roads or race track, but once there the superior components and performance of the 675R would make it the superior bike. It depends of course on the majority of your riding and what you want in the bike. Personally I'm young enough that I'd take the 675R, but I couldn't fault anyone for jumping on this Yamaha.

    Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

Per G-Force today, all the FZ09 bikes are sold before they arrive at the dealership. They had none in stock. Around the corner at Foothills, rep said the Street Triple R is very hard to find and none to be had there. They have the non R version in stock and I really like its riding position. Couple blocks down the street at RPM, I checked out a CB1000R. Nice but I rather have a triple.

    Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

Rocky Mountain Cycle Plaza in Colorado Springs has a grey FZ09 for sale as of Thursday. I was sorely tempted to say yes. Price is $7990 MSRP plus D/H and tax take it to just slightly over $9K out the door.

I've bought two new motorcycles from them (back in 2007) - good service. They fired it up for me. It was a toss up between that and a 09 FZ-1 on craigslist. I was going to get the FZ1 ($6000) but was turned down by the bank (Mrs. Clovis).

    Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

I'd take the 9 over the 1, in all seriousness despite my power addiction. Better looks, much. If the 1 had the R1 engine maybe, but with only a 20hp advantage, and 70 pounds overweight, the triples personality would rock my world.

I am pretty sure you must have been following me today, I went to the same three places. Also sat on the same non R version.

    Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Triple

This FZ1 in particular is better suited for my riding. It already has a Givi top case, two brothers exhaust, flush turn signal w/ fender eliminator. It's a smaller version of the FJR

The FZ9 looks pretty sweet though. In a perfect world I would get both. I'm hestitant to buy a brand new bike at MSRP though when I know in a year or two I can buy a used one for a few grand less.

Here's the one at RMCP however:
